Hello,
My ancestor is Mary Carson who was married to George Bratton. Here's one
source: From The Indiana Countian newspaper and their series SETTLERS FROM YORK
COUNTY -- "William Bratton, Revolutionary soldier, was father of George
Bratton who was born in York County PA 1776; died in 1857. George Bratton married
first, Mary Carson (1783-1825); second Elizabeth ________ who died in 1856.
The family migrated to Plum Twp., Allegheny County PA where George and Mary's
son William was born 13 December 1804." This was probably printed in Indiana
County because that's where George's son William Bratton and his family
settled.
Records verify George Bratton, son of William, was born in 1776 and lived in
York Co PA until ca 1798. George did transportation work from eastern PA to
western PA before he was married. That means he could have met his wife Mary
Carson about anywhere in PA. There were Carsons in York Co PA when the
Brattons were there. I've researched those lines but have not been able to find a
Carson family there with a known daughter Mary b ca 1783.
George and Mary lived in Plum Twp, Allegheny Co PA prier to 1810 until their
deaths. Their first son was named William, in honor of George's father.
Their second son was James, and their first daughter was Jane. If this
information is complete and if they followed the naming rools of those days -- the odds
are that Mary Carson's parents were James and Jane Carson.
There was James Carson in Butler Co PA in 1800. Butler Co is very close to
Plum Twp where George and Mary lived. And George's brother Paris Bratton also
lived in Butler Co. before 1800. Paris was the first known white man who
married in Butler Co in 1800.
1800 census Middlesex Twp., Butler Co PA [where Paris Bratton lived at that
time]
