Subject: Re: [CARSON] DNA Testing
Hi Marilyn,
The Carson DNA project is through Family Tree DNA, and if it's done
through
the project, there's a discount for participants. Stephanie copied above
administrates the project as a volunteer.
I have another surname project (my great grandmother Dunn) where one
participant did it through ancestry.com's lab, unaware that the Dunn
project was with
FTDNA. The report he received is was in a completely different order and
also
tested some different markers and didn't test some of the same ones. That
made it difficult to compare with others.
I and some others have been known to offer to assist in paying for a DNA
test when it's a line that appears to have a connection. In fact, I just
offered
to assist one person yesterday, along with another couple of researchers
in
my Carson line. Can you refresh my memory on your line?
I paid for another person that I thought my connect to my Dunn line and
came
up empty handed. He doesn't appear to be a Dunn (no matches with any
others).
Regarding variations on "Carson" spelling, as Stephanie mentioned, there
have
been some census misspellings. There does seem to be a surname "Cason"
that
is different from Carson. There was a Rev. John Carson/Cosson/Cason with
some
Carson lines in Washington Co TN 1790s that I think actually changed his
spelling or the tax surveyer spelled it wrong, given that he seems to be
a
"Carson" on some entries.
