Have you requested a free Patriot lookup for him
at the DAR? If he is listed with them, it
probably means that someone has filed a DAR
membership application claiming him as a
descendant. If so, the application(s) should
have considerable family info. Look under
Features for "DAR Patriot Lookups" at the
following site
http://dar.org/default.cfm
Careful - there were a lot of Carsons out there!
The DAR also has a major genealogical library
near you in D. C., open to the public - for about
$3.00 a day last time I was there. (Call first
about their schedule or check their site for it.)
They have microfilm of applicaitons and they
might have some Casey Co. records. Local DAR
chapters do cemetery records, etc. and file them
with the library, which also has many published
books of wills, deeds, local history, family
genealogies, etc.
There might also be pension records for him or
his widow at the National Archives. Then there's
the 1850 census - and index to same - at National
Archives. Of course, his wife might have
predeceased him, and if not, the census would
give only her first name, and if a wife was
listed, she may not be his first wife. Archives
is also in your own "backyard", in D.C.
And you can check for Casey Co. records such as
deeds and wills on microfilm at your local LDS
Family History Center, or check their site at
familysearch.org
for availability, nearest centers, etc.

Sutherland, James Franklin. Some original land
grant surveys along Green River in Lincoln and
Casey Counties, Kentucky (1781-1836)
Casey County, Ky.: Casey County Bicentennial
Committee, 1975
Your James may have received a land grant for his
service in the Revolution. This book contains
references to the name James Carson (1798, 1808,
1810) and is the kind of book of local records
that you might find at DAR, though this one is
probably not likely to name his wife.

I am looking for the Wife of James CARSON.
James was born 1761 in Virginia or North
Carolina, served in the Revolutionary War from
Surrey County, North Carolina, and died 1852 in
Casey County, Kentucky.
