Hi Betty,
The Thomas Carson born 1740 of Washington Co PA line (kit 47163) would be
in Haploggroup I - Lineage I-A. Males Carson descendants of that Thomas
would match closely. Your Carson line I recall is in Haplogroup R, which is
a different family. Here's a link to the Carson YDNA Project results page.

Gary, how close is this match to my son?
We got my only living brother to do a YDNA test just for kicks. He is so
glad he did as he is a close match to the Durbin Texas Rangers that we all
have postcards featuring them. We had no idea they belonged to our bunch
and are now trying to figure out how. I think I know but need to do some
more paper research.
I have been so busy working on DAR papers for 5 supplementals and with a
new
job so have been out of touch with YDNAs for a while.

Hi Jay,
Have you decided to do the YDNA test? The descendant of Thomas Carson
born 1740 Scotland died Washington Co PA doing the YDNA test was Rich
Carson....I think he still lives in that area of PA.
The I haplogroup Carson line to which Thomas Carson belongs shows up
first
show up in the US included New Castle Co DE, Chester Co PA,
Lancaster Co
PA, Cumberland Co PA and Chester Co SC. The matches in that lineage (6
or
7 branches) suggest a common ancestor probably in the 1600s in
Scotland,
via N Ireland in some cases. There are at least two other branches
off
of
the same I ancestor that diverge some in matches although we share a
common Carson paternal ancestor further back.
Interestingly, there is another Carson line in Chester PA in the R
haplogroup that is not at all related to our I haplogroup.
Let me know if/when you do the YDNA.
I'm trying to get other Carson lines in DE, PA, VA, NC and SC 1700s to
do
the YDNA....might help us sort out our varios lines.
Gary Carson
