Hi Josette,
I just posted my notes on County Down graves involving Carson and Maxwell names. I forgot
to mention to look further down at all of the Ballyphilip parish graveyards beyond those
first ones. There are more Carson graves of possible interest.
I think all of the Carson and Maxwell families comping to PA c1720s were Presbyterians at
that time. I noticed that some later dated Carson and Maxwell graves in County Down were
Church of Ireland rather than Presbyterian (probably more intermarrying by then).
The text said most Catholic graves in County Down (and other Ulster countiies) would have
been in what are Church of Ireland graveyards prior to 1720, after which Catholic
graveyards were usually separate from those and Presbyterian graveyards. I noticed the
Hanna/Hannah surnames in County Dwon included both Presbyterian (Scots-Irish origin) and
Catholic (usually original Irish) lineages...probably not related closely.
Gary
