I'm searching for any information on the family of Hugh Carson who came from Belfast
to Charleston on the Chichester in 1767/68. From the immigration records, their names and
ages at the time:
Hugh Carson - 40
Margaret Carson - 44
Jane Carson - 21
Margaret Carson - 19
Jannet Carson 17
Mary Carson 15
Elizabeth Carson 12
William Carson 9
Hugh Carson 7
James Carson 4
There are several transactions for land bounties involving many of these family members
(350 acres for Hugh, 100 ea for Margaret, Jane, Margaret, Janet and Mary). I'm still
trying to plot exactly where it was, but seems to have been in Berkeley Co. at the time,
and the Saluda River and Kings Branch (or Kings Creek) are also mentioned.
I believe the younger Hugh was living in the Edgefield area by the early 1800's and
can be found in lists of buyers at some early 1800's estate sales (including the 1815
estate sale of Fanny Satcher, one of my ancestors), and he appears on the 1820 census
there. He also appears on a list of members of the Dry Creek church, which I believe was
in Edgefield at the time but falls in Saluda Co. now.
My earliest known Carson ancestor married Nancy Bruce, granddaughter of the Fanny Satcher
whose estate sale Hugh had purchased from. Hugh also had a couple of land transactions
with the Satcher family. I am trying to fill in Hugh's family tree in order to see if
my James (born 1803 in SC) may be related in some way.
Any information on any of this line, especially the younger Hugh, is much appreciated. If
you have run across any information, no matter how small it may seem, anything at all
could help. I need any leads I can get.
