I'm trying to sort out Carson ancestors from Dauphin, Lancaster, Cumberland PA.
Several findings suggest that a William Carson of Dauphin who married Margaret McCord in
1760 PA moved to western NC then to eastern TN by the 1787. Other marriages by the same
minister in Dauphin PA were Robert Carson and Margaret West in 1755 and Mary Carson and
John Lee 1759. Other nearby marriages were James Carson and Mary Espy 1748.
William Carson died in 1790, Washington Co TN and left a widow Margaret. Children were
William, David, Robert, John, Janet and Mary.
In Washington Co NC around 1787 were William, William Sr., William Jr., David, Robert, and
Moses Carson. By 1792, there was David, David Sr., David Jr., Little David, Robert Sr.,
Robert Jr., John and William Jr. plus Robert, John and William in nearby Green County TN
(before Jefferson was split off). The first group in 1787 appear to be related (brothers
or cousins) who named their sons after their brothers.
Has anybody sorted these out? I've identified William and Margaret as the probable
parents of our David Carson ancestor, based on multiple factors and circumstantial
evidence.
