Hi Josette,
It's great to hear from you. You've done tons of valuable and factual
research. I had noticed a message posting of yours on NC research that listed a
David Carson on the Rowan 1762 tax rolls. Do you have that actual listing? I
can't find it so far.
Here are the circumstantial findings related to my David (nothing is proven
here) as pertains Rowan and Rutherford. Again, nothing yet proven.
In 1759 Rowan, William Carson's will was adm by David Black. William
mentions brother Robert, cousin William, daughter Susannah (not yet of age).
In 1766 Rowan, Samuel Withrow married Jane Gray with George Black and John
Carson bondsment (inlaws).
1779 Rowan, William Carson and James McCord and a nearby Robert Carson had
land grants and deeds near Withrow's Creek.
Around 1788 (probably NC), my David Carson married his wife Catherine born
c1770 who is believed to be a daughter of Matthew Patterson of Rutherford NC
(these Pattersons are later showing up in Haywood NC).
In 1785 Rutherford, Matthew Patterson was next door to John Withrow, an inlaw
of John Carson who married Mary Withrow 1780 Rutherford.
In 1787 Rutherford, Matthew Patterson's land grant in Rutherford joined
William McGaughy's improvements.
In 1790 Rutherford, John Withrow's deed to John Carson was witnessed by Alex
and W. McCaughy. The land was next to George Black, Nevins and others. This
William was a neighbor of Matthew Patterson.
In 1790, Matthew Patterson had 2 adult males and 3 females in his household.
In 1795 Iredell, a David Carson witnessed a deed between Benjamin Asbury and
Richard Wooton (this David is not on any tax lists or other deeds).
In 1802 Rowan, Sarah Caron is neighbors of James Nevins/Nivens.
In 1806 Rutherford, Robert Carson' will (listed in the index of loose papers)
mentioned widow Margaret and 4 children. Names mentioned in the same file
were Margaret Sr, Margaret Jr, Samuel, David, Andrew, Mary and Martha.
In 1815 Haywood NC, David Carson administered Samuel Patterson's will which
mentioned Sarah Owens (believed to be a sister), Samuel Patterson Owens, Elijah
Owens, Samuel Patterson (nephew), Phoebe Dunn. This Samuel is believed to be
a brother or son of Matthew Patterson in Rutherford (there was an older and
younger Matthew). Earlier, Samuel had received a land grant on Puzzle Creek
next to Matthew.
In the 1815 Iredell tax list, Sarah Owens was on the same page with a bunch
of Pattersons (Joseph, Uriah, Jordan), and William Carson and Christopher
Houston.
that connect to those in Haywood. She is possibly the one mentioned in
Samuel Pattersons will in 1815.
In 1816 Rowan, John Carson dec'd estate was divided between son John and
daughter Jane. The land was on Withrow's Creek. Adjacent lands included William
Nevins dec'd.
In 1792, Lindsey Carson from Rowan/Iredell is in Madison KY with John Carson
whose descendant is an exact match with my 37 marker YDNA (not sure what that
means yet). (This finding is new...not researched yet).
Joseph Patterson is on the same page with John Carson and Matthew Patterson
in the 1790 Rutherford NC census. Back in 1772 Guilford NC, Joseph Patterson
married a Rebecca Carson who is thought to possibly connect to my Carson line
(circumstantial).
In 1820 Haywood NC, John Chastain married Nancy Withrow. John is a cousin of
Chastains that married daughters of my David Carson (Elijah Chastain married
Catherine Carson and his son James Chastain married Jane Carson). Nancy
Withrow was supposedly born 1803 Rutherford (family trees online are not clear as
to her parents).
