Hi. I may have a link to this family but I'm not sure. As you say - it's all very
confusing! I am researching a part of the Carson family that eventually settled in
Scotland. I have William Carson whose parents are Joseph Carson and Mary Irwin. William
was married to Ellen McIlwraith and I just recently found out that they spent seven years
in America, between 1880 and 1887. They had five sons - Alexander, William Thomas, Marvel
(or Irwin), Joseph and Samuel.
In the Glasgow Poor Relief records it shows that William made a claim for help to pay for
Alexander and William to attend school. On that record one son is called Marvel but on the
death certificate in 1889 he is noted as Irwin. Both William Thomas and Marvel are shown
as born in America but no details of where. Does any of this make any sense to anyone?
Mary
