Patricia,
Reed researchers who say Margaret Carson (married John Reed 1779 Guilford)
was born in 1762. I've been trying to determine if she connects directly or
indirectly to my Carson lines.
There was a William Carson in sw Caswell NC 1778-1779 who was married to
Margaret McCord 1760 Lancaster PA. I speculated he might have been the bondsman.
This William died 1790 Washington TN and mentioned oldest daughter Jennet and
second daughter Mary. He doesn't mention other daughters. A David Carson
and wife Sarah Woods (married 1753 Lancaster PA) also moved to Caswell with the
others. A Robert Carson married Margaret Woods (Sarah's sister) in 1755
Lancaster PA, and I speculate they also moved to this area of NC. A Robert Carson
had earlier been in Caswell NC (formerly Orange) in the 1760s next to where
William Carson and David lived on the South Hyco River. Then, a Robert Carson
was on Belues Creek in western Guilford c1777 next to some Carson inlaws
(Woods, Strain and some Hannahs) connected to the Lancaster bunch. Robert's land
later falls into Rockingham County. A Robert Carson died 1807 in Iredell NC
with a widow named Margaret (an index says the will also mentions Margaret Jr,
Samuel, Andrew, David, Martha and Mary although I've not seen the text).
Geographically, Robert is the closest Carson I've found to where Margaret
married. David and Sarah had daughters Margaret born 1754 (too old if her dob is
correct) and Mary born 1756 in Lancaster PA.
An Elizabeth and Mary Carson married Thomas and James Bell respecitvely in
the early/mid 1770s in Guilford (at Buffalo Presbyterian). These Carson females
appear to be connected to the Lancaster group. Elizabeth may be David's
daughter based on the names of her children (included a David and Sarah). Mary
could have been David's daughter born 1756 (age fits). These Bells are in
Washington Co TN by the 1790s where David and William also moved. Thomas Bell died
in 1792 with a Robert Carson witnessing his will.
This is part theory and fact so far...still researching.
