Am looking for a link between any of these surnames. It has been suggested that my Ann
Carson is related to the Janvier; Steel and Renshaw families.
This is what I know about Ann Carson:
1) She married Elias Glenn of Elkton and Baltimore, Maryland in the 1790s (either 1790 or
1794) in St Georges New Castle, DE Don't know denomination of church but suspect that
it was Presbyterian.
2) In 1823 Ann Carson reminisced in her diary about going, as a child, to a Mrs.
Smart's school (boarding) in Philadelphia
3) She is mentioned in the 1813 Philadelphia will of Mary (Renshaw) Steel Bartram as her
(Mary Bartram's) niece. Mary was the daughter of Richard and Ann (Steel) Renshaw.
She married #1 James Steel and #2 Isaac Bartram
4) In the Glenn family, children were named for family members. The same seems to be true
of the Steel and Renshaw families. Ann follows the tradition of naming her children for
grandparents, parents, uncles and aunts with one exception, Jefferson Glenn. She named a
son William Carson Glenn (Carson is Ann's maiden name and there are no William's
in the Glenn family until Ann marries Elias. William is not an uncommon name in Carson
families. She also named a daughter Elizabeth Renshaw - Ann's aunt who was Mary
(Renshaw) Steel Bartram had a sister Elizabeth (Renshaw) Janvier.
5) According to the Maryland Historical Society Ann was born in 1770 and died in 1847 in
Maryland
This is what I know about Ann Carson, hope it is not too confusing. Does anyone know
anything additional about her or the Steel, Renshaw, Carson or Janvier families who may be
related? Thanks in advance for help or information.
