Hi Carri,
Can you export the names of your atDNA matches from Family Finder and email them to me (to
compare with mine)? My email is below. Also, can you send me a family tree or details on
the names and locations of your Janet Carson/Andrew Gammill 1790s and later?
I have a possible link for my Carson line in County Down, Ireland. This is based upon
surnames in the First Presbyterian Killyleagh parish baptisms c1690s-1740s. Records
included surnames Carson, Woods, Hanna/Hannah, Mitchell, Strain, Russell, Reid/Reed,
Richey and some others that are together in PA 1750s and later in NC and TN.
I descend from Robert Carson and Margaret Woods who married 1755 in Lancaster Co PA. Two
descendants of Moses Carson b1737/Elizabeth Hannah of Washington Co TN are YDNA matches
with me, proving Robert and Moses were closely related/brothers. They all had migrated
from PA to Washington/Greene TN c1780s with William Carson/Margaret McCord (m 1 May 1760
Lancaster Co PA, Paxtang), David Carson/Sarah Woods, and other Carson, Woods, Hannah,
Mitchell, Strain/Strahan, Mebane and other relatives plus Bell, Reed and others that
intermarry. The McCord families from PA also show up in Washington Co TN in the
1780s/1790s. I don't know for certain that Margaret McCord (wife of William Carson)
was the daughter of a specific McCord (i.e., David McCord). The migration suggests a link.
I have a Family Finder atDNA cousin match with a descendant of David Mitchell/Elizabeth
Woods (a sister of Margaret and Sarah).
I omit William Carson who married Margaret McCord as a proven brother of my Robert because
a descendant of Robert Carson/Jane Ritchey who married 1794 in Washington Co TN believes
their Robert was a son of William Carson/Margaret McCord. A male Carson descendant of this
Robert/Jane has similar YDNA to me (in the I haplogroup) although I think it's off by
too much for their Robert to have been a nephew my Robert. Since There were 3 William
Carson names on the 1787 tax list in Washington Co TN (including a Sr and Jr). There were
3 or 4 Carson males each named Robert, William, David, John and Andrew in
Washington/Greene Co TN c1790s.
There was a William Carson on the Big Limestone in 1783 in Washington Co TN near Moses and
my Robert Carson and the older David Carson. I think this was William Carson/Margaret
McCord.
Below are some of my notes on various William Carson and related names in that county.
The will of William Carson dec'd 1790 lists wife Margaret and oldest son William and

A Robert Carson and David Carson on road orders in 1790 Washington Co TN were listed to be

wife Sarah, and a David Carson as an executor. That William had a son (not named).
