I am a descendent of John Scott. James Monroe Scott was my gg grandfather. John Scott
had brother, William, who everyone seems to agree on. I was told by a
g-granddaughter of William Scott and Louisa Huggins that Maryann Scott on the 1850 census
in Waterloo was their sister or half-sister. She married a Lewis. She is buried in
Florence Cemetery. In 1830 a Samuel C. Scott lived with one residence in between him and
my John Scott and I think he is probably a brother but could be another relation. He
married Elizabeth Pritchard in 1830. They later moved to St. Clare Co. Missouri.
Some people have listed John W. Scott who married Mary Jane Haynes as John Scott and Marh
Carson's oldest son. According to the Maury County Cousins book, this John W. was the
son of James Bartlett Scott who died in Marshall Co. Tenn. The book lists her name as
Harris but the marriage date and other dates fit John W. Scott as James Bartlett
Scott's son. I think this James Bartlett Scott may be another brother (born 1797
NC). William Scott (John's brother) married his first wife, a Patton in Williamson
Co. Tn, and a James B. Scott was listed on their license. Also, Isabella Scott Lambert is
most likely a sister of John, William and the rest. She married Abner Lambert in
Williamson Co. Tn. Isabella is buried in Macoupin, Illinois. Her tombstone can be seen
there and picture copied. It reads Isabel, wife of Abner Lambert, died 26 Nov 1828 age 79
years. There are other Lauderdale Co. Alabama Scotts I cannot connect to ours. A James
Scott was born in VA had a son, !
Joseph born Isle of Wight, Va. They were in Buncombe Co. NC in 1800, came through Giles
co. and Maury co. Tn and maybe another county in Tenn and then to Lauderdale Co. Al.
James died in 1831 and was buried in "Waterloo Cemetery." They seemed to have
lived in Florence though. After he died, Joseph and his large family moved to Texas where
Joseph died the next year. Some have tried to make a connection between the Waterloo
Scotts and the Wayne Co. Tn Scotts. The only connection I can find is they originally
came from NC but came through Kentucky where several were born. I find no record of the
Waterloo Scotts ever being in Kentucky. Would like to correspond with anyone working on
these lines.
