Thanks, Marybeth. I have checked the lines of every Hugh I could find in PA. Only
possibilities I could see is that Hugh is related to Patrick in some way or perhaps he was
one of the unknown children living with a Samuel Carson in 1800. There were Hughes in that
line. If anyone has additional ideas, that would be great.
Hugh is the same age as Patrick's son Robert, but Robert appears to be listed
separately in the enumeration of men over 21 in Salt Creek, OH, so I guess he is not the
same person. Hugh is not listed in Patrick's will either. Patrick was in Fallowfield,
PA, before going to OH. Patrick does seem to have one more child under 5 in the household
than he should have had in 1800 census based on who he named in his will, so perhaps Hugh
was there. Of course, presence in the household wouldn't mean Hugh was Patrick's
son necessarily either.
A connection to Patrick makes sense to me since Patrick first settled near Pittsburgh,
went to Salt Creek, OH, and had children who were pioneers in Henry, IL. Hugh was born in
PA, first came of age and was listed in censuses in Salt Creek, moved to Pittsburgh, had
grandchildren born in Henry, and later went back to live in Salt Creek. Hugh did not seem
to go anywhere in his life that was not connected with Patrick Carson family somehow.
Thanks for your interest, Marybeth. Will let you know if I ever run into anything on James
for you.
Cindy
