I also am a female Carson, so I had my older brother to do the YDNA test for the Carson surname. I am very eager to get the results back. I followed the line of Carsons that I THOUGHT were my line, but when it came to three William Carsons who all came to America around 177-1775...I got lost. I can "prove" my surname ancestors up to William Carson born in PA on 4 Jul 1776 (by entries in the old family Bible, but I cannot PROVE which of the multitude of Williams who came to America from Ireland in the 1770s was my William's father. I even checked with the LDS files and they said that they cannot find documentation (at this point) to say "for sure" which one would go with my direct line. I am hoping that when we get my brother's DNA test back that we might be able to actually figure out which William it was that brought MY line of the family to America. I had about 4 more generations put into my tree with the Carson ancestors, but I unlinked them since I have no proof of anyo!
ne before William who was born in 1776. It gets frustrating....but I want to find the right person. Maybe if enough Carsons will do the YDNA testing, we can all come up with answers to this perplexing problem.

John Carson married Mary possibly McFarland was the
son of Walter Carson m. Agnes. Walter is first listed
on tax records in Chester Co. Pa in 1729 in the same
city as Samuel Carson (first listed tax records
Chester CO. Pa 1724) m. Jane Patterson. It is proven
that Samuel and Walter are blood relatives, either
cousins or brothers. Walter and Agnes had another
son, WIlliam, who "went to the Carolinas" before
John and Mary whom I've never found. THey also had
a son proven circumstantially named Walter who married
Mary Carson, daughter of Samuel m. Jane Patterson.
Walter Carson (son) moved to York Co. SC along with
several of the children of Samuel m. Jane Patterson.
A male descendent of Samuel m. Jane Pattersson has
submitted a YDNA kit. I'm looking for a male
descendent of John Carson m. Mary ? MCFarland to
submit a YDNA kit. Know any?

Gary,
I don't know of living male line descendants of any of Samuel's son except through his son Walter who married Agnes Hare. There are probably thousands of those living. Walter moved to New Castle, Delaware, then to Cecil, Maryland, but his son John Carson moved to Harrison County, Ohio, from Maryland, and has many living male descendants today. Unfortunately, I don't know any of them personally.
There was a Carson researcher (Betty Davidson Carson) who died last year in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her widower George D. Carson, Jr., is a male line descendant of Samuel and Jane through Walter and Agnes Hare Carson through John Carson and Hannah Rogers, etc. If you are on Ancestry, then you should be able to locate his address and/or phone.
Good luck, Dan

Hi Kristi,
Thought that you mean to reply to Josette Maxwell. The early Carsons are confusing to me, also. You can try her direct email again by spelling Josette with two T's.
Part of what makes it confusing for me is that Walter, son of Samuel Carson and Jane Patterson, grew up in Chester Co., Pa., moved to New Castle Co., Del., then to Cecil Co., Md. Then his son John moved to Ohio and Walter's son Walter is said to have moved to New York.
But I've not found any records for the junior Walter in New York, so don't know what really happened to him.
It is also doesn't help that besides your Walter who married an Agnes (Hare/Hair), there was another Walter Carson who married another Agnes and it gets all fuzzy with all the similar individual's names and couples' names, etc.
Dan
