Thanks for the quick response. Elizabeth Carson and Robert Hamilton Espy were married in 1810 in Big Spring Church in Newville, Cumberland, Pennsylvania. That's still in Cumberland County. They settled in Dauphin County and were later recorded in Butler County.
Given the date of marriage, I would put her birth in the late 1700s (1780-1795). From the "History of the Espy Family in America" published in 1905, I have the marriage date and a list of the children: Margaret Ann, Thomas (died age 2), Samuel, Jane, Rachel, William, Elizabeth, Robert Hamilton, and Thomas. No James...
If your Carsons moved to NC in 1760s-1770s, they may not be her parents but may still be related.

I found this thread interesting, as I have a James Carson (1800, Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA--1875, Old Allegheny, Allegheny Co., PA); married to Mary GEER (1810--1885), 18 Dec 1828, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Pittsburgh, PA. Parents of Ellen B., Ann Virginia, Arthur McGill, James Buchanan, Cornelia, and Marion. Ellen and Ann were born in Butler Co. PA, 1831 and 1837. James was a merchant and innkeeper, Old Allegheny, as per Harris city directories.
Searching for his parents, siblings, and descendants. Other related surnames: BALL THOMSON UHL
Thank you.

Couple of things. When you are looking for parents
of a spouse, it's a good procedure to list the names
of the sons and daughters born in order of their
birth because, frequently, naming patterns are
followed by the Scot/Irish. For example, the first
son would be named after the paternal grandfather,
etc. It's a good bet that the parents of a spouse
would be named either the first or second son and
the first or second daughter.
Secondly, there are way too many Elizabeth Carsons
in southeast Pennsylvania. There is a daughter of
a John Carson d. 1800 in Cumberland county named
Elizabeth and a daughter of a John Carson in Paxtang
named Elizabeth. Several children of the John Carson
of Cumberland are buried in Big Springs cemetery.
Epsy is also spelled Epsie or Apsy in a lot of records.
I seem to recall they are located in Paxtang, now
Dauphin county.
The will of Thomas Apsy probated Cumberland 1755
states that James Carson is his son in law.
It wouldn't be unusual for first cousins to marry.

In 1748 Cumberland Co PA (also listed as Lancaster Co), James Carson married Mary Espy. Elizabeth Carson who later married Thomas Espy there might be related to James Carson. In what year would the "late 1700s) be? 1751 or closer to 1799?
My Carson line was in the Paxtang/Harrisburg area of Lancaster Co PA (later is in Dauphin) and in Cumberland Co PA 1750s-1760s, then went to NC 1760s-1770s.
