Hi Tim,
To do the YDNA test, it's of value in tracing the male line...the Y chromosome with the DNA is only passed from male to male. In other words, a male participant's father's father, etc. If you want to trace your Carson lineage (if your mother is the Carson descendant), the participant in the YDNA test has to be a male Carson relative of your mother (brother, cousin, uncle) if you can locate one. The YDNA test has been very useful in helping me focus in on the right Carson lineage that matches my YDNA results.
Gary

In 1910, in Shawnee, Okllahome, there was a Kit Carson living in the same building with my grandfather, James Carson. This is from the Census. By the way,, I believe that ;my g father's middle initial is "L". His father is Franklin T. Carson, I think. This info is from Arkansas records. Boone County.\

Thank you for getting back to me. I have considered the YDNA test. I simply do not know which family to use. My mother was a Carson. My grandmother was a Hill and my grandfather was a Carson. In fact, I believe that his father was Franklin T. Carson. However, I do not have that pinned down totally.
Tim

I will respond to your regular email address!! I have a serious problem with anything I post being construed as gospel and people picking up on it and adding that info to THEIR family tree...later when I see that info and ask them to veryify my info...they refuse and also refuse to delete it.
When I am ready to post all the past almost 40 yrs of genealogical research...it will be correct and not heresay!!!
:)

Hi Tim,
For some reason I didn't see your posting to me until now. Did you get any hints from other replies on your Carson ancestry?
James Terrel Carson descends from William Carson born 1801 of Haywood NC. Findings suggest William to be a son of David Carson b1755-65 of Buncombe/Haywood NC. The family gets confusing because David's census household fluctuates and makes it hard to determine just how many children belonged to him at any given time.
Have you considered doing the YDNA test? If you are a Carson male by birth, that will help sort out which line is yours. I did the YDNA test, and we discovered there were two or three distantly related Carson families (the DNA is similar though not siblings as some of us had speculated) in my line who moved together from Lancaster PA to NC/TN 1750s-1770s, then some went to Washington/Greene TN 1780s. My David Carson moved back to Buncombe NC c1800.
Here's a link to the Carson DNA project website.
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/carson/index.html
You can view DNA results and Patriarchs for most of the Carson lines participating (and some other Carson lines).

Elizabeth Carson born c1800 (wife of Steven William Huff) was possibly a daughter of Andrew Carson of Jefferson Co TN. Andrew's son Robert Carson b1798 married Rebecca Huff, so that suggests a Huff connection. One posting says Andrew Carson's wife may have been Judith Nichols (married 4 Nov 1795 Jefferson TN).
Branches connecting to my Carson line(Robert born 1730s father of David born c1755-65 Lancaster PA) were in Washington, Greene and/or Jefferson TN 1780s-1800 and later....still trying to sort them out.

Hello Gary...
No, you did not ask before. I will have to think and let you know.Male descendants of my Carson line are few & far between. I can only think of one...and we have never even met...but I will inquire and let you know. Most of the children of those I know were female.
Daniel

Hi again Daniel,
I may have asked this already. Do you know of a male Carson descendant from your line who might do the YDNA test? I did the test as have some other connecting lines. It has helped sort out some things.
Thanks,
Gary
