Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
The 1860 TN census shows no Jesse or Jessie
Carson in that state (possibly that was his
middle name?) but the 1880 census lists Rebecca
as a widow in Perry Co. and lists Vaine [sic],
age 16, and A. S. J.?, 14, as her daughter and
son. Interestly, Vaine's last name is listed as
Daily, then marked out. Next door is a Robert
Daily family. This name could be a clue to a
first husband, an adoption, Rebecca's maiden
name, etc., or probably just a mistake on the
census taker's part.
Good luck!

The Archibald Sloan, Fergus Sloan and Samuel Sloan lines in Rowan NC 1770s
originated in Lancaster Co PA. The Sloans had Carson connections in PA, and
moved to NC around the same time. There were continuing connections in NC.
My Carson line moved to Washington/Greene TN 1780s as did some Sloan
offspring.
Alexander Sloan (who Catherine Carson per your posting) was a son of
Archibald Sloan from this line. Her parents would depend upon whether they married
in NC or TN. There were 4 or 5 Carson families moving to Washington and
Greene counties TN c1780.

Both sisters were in Cooper Co MO with the Rev Finis Ewing and the

Where in the NC Carson Gordian knot were these sisters?

Hi Philip,
Do you know of a living male Carson that was a descendant of David Carson
and Mary Burke from Washington Co TN? If so, he needs to do the YDNA test to
see exactly which line that David connects to. My David Carson bought land in
1793 from Robert Carson of Washington TN, and this Robert was later in
Greene TN. Then, my David sold it in 1798 and moved to Buncombe NC back on the
east side of the mountains. The David Carson that I understand married Mary
Burke (assume that's your David ancestor) was near the same age, and he
migrated further into TN, to Blount c1797. The YDNA results could tell us if they
were cousins or their fathers were brothers/cousins, etc.
A male Carson who descends from yet another David Carson line in Washington
Co VA is doing the YDNA.
I'm trying to find another male Carson from the Rowan/Iredell and/or Orange
NC Carson lines to do the YDNA to see if all of those match or not. They
connect somehow to my Carson line and probably yours. They and our Carson lines
all used the same first names over and over: William, David, Robert, John,
Alexander, James, Samuel and Joseph. Moses was either a brother or cousin of
my line.
Later, the names Shadrack pops up in Carlene's line and in my line, and the
name Ambrose pops up in my line and in a Robert Carson line that moved to
Ohio. It's also a McCord family name.

Hi Philip,
I suspect that the William Carson - Margaret McCord line is either the
Shadrack Carson line (C21), or my David Carson line (C11). Carlene's ancestor is
Shadrack born 1805 TN, son of Robert Carson and Jane Ritchey who married
c1794 Washington TN. We had for some time thought Shadrack's father and my David
were brothers because Shadrack was sent to Haywood NC after his father died
to live with a relative c1820, my David Carson ancestor being the only Carson
in that county. Now, it looks more like her Robert and my David were
distant cousins because the DNA is similar though not an exact match or close
enough to have been brothers. We now think that Shadrack's father, Robert, was
more likely the son of William Carson - Margaret McCord (married 1760), and the
parents of my David Carson were Robert Carson and Margaret Woods (married
1755). Both couples moved to NC, then to TN. Her Robert's brother may have
been David Carson who married Mary Burke c1795. Or, their parents were the
opposite (less likely).
It seems that my David's father, Robert, was a cousin of William Carson,
father of Lindsey Carson of Iredell NC (or maybe even a brother). We're trying
to confirm that through writings of a descendant of that line. David shows up
buying from an estate sale in 1807, Iredell NC. And, Robert and Margaret
Carson had sold land there in 1780, before moving to TN.

I have no idea who Uriah's parents are but suspect
Thomas Carson is his brother or close cousin. They
had land in the late 1700s near each other.
I actually descend from a different Uriah, but DNA
testing is pointing towards these southern Uriah lines
as being very close cousins. Who are MY Uriah's
parents?? :)
Unfortunately, records aren't always as good as we'd
like. If your Uriah hadn't joined the Quaker church,
there'd be much less information on that line.
Stephanie Carson Feldman descends from Uriah, so she would be the best to
speculate as to his parents.
The YDNA from the Uriah Carson line is similar to the my Carson line (not an
exact match but of similar origins), also in western NC 1750s-1780s (a
Nordic "I" haplogroup). My Carson line (or branches of it) was in Rowan, Iredell,
Orange, Caswell, Guilford, Buncombe and Haywood NC, and Washington/Greene
TN. So far, all of the descendants of the Carson lines in western NC that have
done the YDNA test are from the Nordic line (or all that I have seen results
for). Many other Carson lines who have done the YDNA test are of the
western European "R" haplogroup. The "I" and "R" Carson haplogroups are not
closely related.
Maybe Stephanie can add some thoughts.

In researching Uriah Carson (who married Mary Cooke), all records seem to show William Carson and Eleanor McDuff as Uriah's parents. The problem is.... Uriah appears to have been born in 1743 but William and Eleanor appear to have been married in 1751. Can anyone unravel this for me?
