Phillip,
I suspect that several of the Carson males that moved to Orange NC then to
Washington TN were related. There was such a huge Carson cluster it's tough
to sort them out.
William Carson (dec'd 1790 Washington TN) who married Margaret McCord 1760,
David Carson (married Sarah Woods 1753), Moses Carson (married Elizabeth
Hannah c1762) and Robert Carson (married Margaret Woods 1753) moved from
Lancaster PA, Paxtang Twp, to Orange NC c1760s-1770s then moved to Washington TN
1780s. David and Robert showed up in Orange first c1765 (with a John Carson and
the Alexander Carson dec'd 1775 Orange). In 1778, William and David are
next to one another in Caswell, and Moses is nearby on the Caswell/Orange
border. Robert is in Guilford near Woods, Hannah, Strain inlaws.
My revised theory is that Robert Carson and Margaret Woods (married 1755
Lancaster PA) were the parents of my David Carson ancestor b1755-65. This
theory is based on my David apparently naming his oldest son Robert (something
recently determined). And, my DNA matches exactly with Moses Carson's
descendant. Cowles' book says that Moses was a brother of William, father of Lindsey
and gf of Kit Carson, and that Moses and William had cousins Robert, William
and James. So, this cousin Robert is the most likely one that was my Robert
ancestor. Another Robert died 1765 in Cumberland PA and his goods and
chattels were deeded to Moses. This dec'd Robert had to be related as well
although it doesn't appear he had a surviving family or widow.
William Carson dec'd 1790 (married Margaret Woods) had sons William, David,
Robert and John. I don't think this was my David ancestor.
In the case of David Carson, his wife (Sarah Woods) was a sister of Robert's
wife (Margaret Woods), and the Woods girls were in-laws of Elizabeth Hannah
(Moses Carson's wife) which explains another connection.
A descendant of a younger Robert Carson (believed to be the one who married
Jane Ritchey 1795 Washington TN and who died c1820 in TN) had DNA results that
were 5 of 37 markers off from me and Moses descendant. The results suggest
this Robert connected a few generations earlier than previously assumed
(i.e., his father was likely a distant cousin). The son of this Robert named
Shadrack Carson b1804 was sent to Haywood NC to live with a relative after
Robert died c1820 in TN. My David Carson was the only Carson household in Haywood
NC. I and descendants of Shadrack have been trying to figure out these
connections.
The more Carson males who do the DNA test, the more we can determine where
they connect.

Hi Lenore,
I saw your posting that mentioned Iredell NC Carson lines. Findings combined with DNA results point to my ancestor being Robert Carson born 1730s (married Margaret Wood 1755 Lancaster PA) and Robert being the brother of William Carson dec'd 1759 Rowan NC. This William in his will lists his "cusin" William Carson, and the only William in that area was the father of Lindsey and grandfather of Kit Carson. Also, a descendant of the Kit line wrote a book that says Moses was a brother of Kit's grandfather William, and they had cousins named William, Robert and James Carson, and my DNA matches the Moses line.
I'm now trying to clear up various branches and also to sort out some other Carson individuals in the same areas of PA, NC and TN.
Do you know of a Carson male in your line who has done the DNA test or might?
Thanks,
Gary Carson

John Walker married Sarah Carson on May 4, 1844 in Perry, Indiana. I have John Walker (born in Indiana)and a Sarah (born in Ohio) listed on the 1850 census township of Perry, Clay Co., Indiana. I believe this Sarah is Sarah Carson. I was hoping someone may know. I was also wondering what happened to her, because he was remarried by 1860 to a Rebecca (born in Indiana). I know this is the same John Walker because three of his children with Sarah are living with him and his new wife. The three children are Benjamin F., Mary E., and James W. Walker. John and Sarah did have another child (Rebecca J. Walker) but she is not with John and his new wife on the 1860 census. I hope someone can help. Thanks

Google "Kitt" Carson and input info into a separate tree, his father had about 15 kids and he had about 15 kids, the other Carsons were also quite prolific, mainly in PA. Unfortunately the family members used the same five first names; John, James, Sarah, Julia, Charles. But if you are carefuly with birth and death dates and writing down info from early 1800's before entering, it is possible. I have three different Carson trees, the relations go back to NC in the 1600's. Otherwise, the next ten generations spread throughout the US, partly because there wasn't enough land to support so many children that lived to adulthood. A hardy genetic strain. My great grandfather was Albert Carson, born in PA, roamed down to Texas, back up to St. Paul, was a street car conductor and lived to his 80's. Do these steps and you will find a huge number of ancestors. Good luck. Linda
