Hi Suzie,
I suspect the dob of William, Lindsey's father, was quite a bit later than
many list. The Moses that came to NC (listed in Cowles book) was born 1730s.
The Moses some list as William's brother was a different person who never
came to NC and was not from the Lancaster/Dauphin location of this Carson line.
William's oldest son, Lindsey, was born 1754, which suggests William being
born 1730s also. William's cousin William dec'd 1759 was quite young when he
died...just had one child, daughter Susannah, who was under age at the time,
so he would have been born 1730s also.
It seems that some of the trees online are force fit and fudged to make
William part of them.
Thoughts?

Suzie,
Have you communicated with any Carson male descendants of Lindsey or Andrew
or siblings during your research?
As mentioned earlier, the quote from the 1935 book (see below) suggests my
David Carson is likely a son of a Robert, who in turn may be the cousin of
Lindsey's father William mentioned. Various circumstantial evidence
supports
this. And, my DNA matches the descendant of Andrew Carson who married

Hi
These land warrants for Walter Carson were actually in what became Adams County.
In 1749, York county was separated from Lancaster and in 1800 if I remember
correctly, Adams County was carved out of York. The Carsons were in
Menallan, which bordered on what became Franklin County.

in 1766. Don't know where he was between this time frame and 1790 when he
married in Rowan Co. NC.
He left NC in the early 1800s into TN. He had, family history states $2000.
in Gold coins in Saddle Bags that he purchased his land in TN. 3000 acres
eventually all was fenced but 700. I feel he must have gone down the Old
Wagon
Road from DE thru PA into VA down into NC. Then over into TN whether thru
VA>KY down or thru NC>GA an up who knows.

Hi, Suzie. Robert Return Carson and youngest his
brother John A., both of the 46th TN Inf., CSA,
were prisoners of war in Camp Douglas, IL, where
John died. They had been captured during the
battle of Island No. 10 in the Mississippi River,
across from New Madrid, MO and Hickman, TN, in
April 1862. John's father was not even allowed
to take his body back to TN. John was buried at
the camp and now lies at the Confederate Memorial
(or Confederate section of the Civil War
Memorial?) in Chicago, where the bodies at the
camp were later moved.
Robert was paroled and returned to Henry Co., and
after being widowed, married his wife's sister,
my husband's great-grandmother Margaret Amanda
(Harris) Hope, widow of Adam Hope, who was also
in the 46th and was killed at the Battle of Ezra
Church, GA. (His body was never found.) Robert
and Margaret moved their merged families to Texas
some time after the war, and then settled in
Benton Co. AR where they lived in or near the
town of Rogers. I think Robert was in the apple
(orchard?0 business. When Robert died, his son
accompanied his body back to Henry Co., so he
could be buried in the family plot in Puryear
next to his first wife. I have a little more on
his children, including photos, if you are
interested.
The family always said that they were related to
Kit Carson, but it was Andrew's NC will that
seemed to prove that. There is a story that a
living Carson in OK has an old letter someone in
his family received from Kit's son, in NM, I
think. I have not seen this letter but my
source, who also lives in OK, has been quite
reliable on other matters.
Regards.

Do you have any proof that Jane Patterson was the daughter of
William Patterson and, if so, do you have any information on
from where and when this William Patterson came to the US?
Josette
I've never come across any documentation that I can remember off the top of
my head. Haven't pulled out the NC stuff for a year or more, and will double
check.
Josette
First, I changed email addresses. It's now josettemaxwell(a)bellsouth.net.
Secondly, John Carson of Rutherford County is proven the son of Walter and Agness Carson
of what became Adams County Pennsylvania. The children of Jane Patterson and Samuel
Carson are proven, many of them coming down to the Carolinas. Their daughter Mary
Carson marrried Walter Carson, presumed son of Walter and Agness Carson (York Ct. SC).
Another son of Walter and Agnes Carson of Adams Ct. also came to the Carolinas
William Carson whom I've never found. We can prove a blood relationship between
Samuel Carson m. Jane Patterson and Walter Carson m. Agness Carson of Adams, just
not whether they are brothers or cousins. Samuel is in Chester on the tax rolls by 1725
and Walter Carson on the tax rolls 1729, same town in Chester County. My connection
is that the daughter of Walter and Agness Carson of Adams, married Henry Maxwell.
I did a lot of research on the Carsons of the Carolinas and posted it on the Carson
Genforum a couple of years ago. I did it by county if I remember correctly pulling everything
together that was based on documents.
Josette Maxwell
Hi again Josette,
Your findings and postings are wonderful and thorough. Are the Walter
Carson entries in Lancaster and York PA (see below) in your Carson line? My
Carson group was out of Lancaster PA prior to NC (and Moses was involved in a
Robert Carson dec'd estate in Cumberland 1765), so a lot of my focus was in those
areas.
Thanks,

Suzie,
Have you communicated with any Carson male descendants of Lindsey or Andrew
or siblings during your research?
As mentioned earlier, the quote from the 1935 book (see below) suggests my
David Carson is likely a son of a Robert, who in turn may be the cousin of
Lindsey's father William mentioned. Various circumstantial evidence supports
this. And, my DNA matches the descendant of Andrew Carson who married November
1790 Washington TN to Elizabeth Hannah. Andrew is mentioned in the book as
a son of the cousin James and that he married Elizabeth Cate rather than
Hannah. I (and some others) had thought Andrew was a son of Moses since Moses
was bondsman for the marriage and Andrew named a son Moses Lemuel. Moses'
oldest son was listed as James. I guess this needs more research. Andrew could
be a son of either Moses or James.
Thanks,
Gary

I have a short paragraph from the book "Genealogy of Five Allied Families"

book? The paragraph reads;
"William CARSON (grandfather of Kit CARSON) and his brother Moses CARSON
left Penn. in 1750, and settled in Northwestern North Carolina, just over the
mountains from Washington Co. Tenn. Also in this group were three brothers,
William, Robert and James CARSON. They were cousins of the above William and
Moses CARSON. The cousin James CARSON had a neighboring land grant to William
CARSON, grandfather to Kit CARSON. The cousin James CARSON had a son Andrew
CARSON born 1765. He moved to Washington Co. Tenn, and married Nov 3, 1790 in
Washington Co Co. to Elizabeth Cates. Andrew and Elizabeth CARSON later moved

My Morris line was in Louisa and Orange VA before moving to Henry County TN.
I have an Abraham Reed in the late 1700's, and research from others state he
was from NC. His descendants moved to the Barren/Warren Co KY area. His
grandson, Abraham Reed Newport moved to the Henry Co TN area around the
early 1820's. They lived close to the Carson folks in Henry Co TN but my
parents were the connection between my Carson and Reed lines.

Sounds like we should have a connection somewhere. The Jane Patterson
that
I mentioned, wife of Samuel Carson, was a daughter of a William Patterson
who
died in PA ca 1745. I don't have anything on a Matthew Patterson, but I
really haven't looked for anything on the Pattersons as yet.
I also have no clue on a David Carson. The preeminent Carson researcher of
my line is a Josette Maxwell. Have you corresponded with her? The email I
have for her is _maxwelljl(a)earthlink.net_ (mailto:maxwelljl@earthlink.net)

Hi Patricia,
I think this William was the one from Lancaster PA (married Margaret McCord
1760). They were living in Caswell NC 1778-1780 and sold out and moved to
Washington TN 1780s (David, Moses and possibly Robert also moved to TN).
Robert Carson who was the only Carson in Guilford 1779.
He is probably the Robert from Lancaster PA (who moved to NC with relatives
including Moses, David, two Williams, etc.).
