Diane (or I think that's you replying),
I'd like to access your family tree online (I haven't uploaded mine there yet) if you can email me access gkcarson(a)aol.com.
The YDNA results for me (ancestor is Robert Carson born 1730s married Margaret Woods 1755 Lancaster PA) and a descendant of Thomas Carson born 1740 (m Mary Smith New Castle Co DE) of Washington PA matched 35 of 37 markers. The report says that the probability of a common ancestor within the last.....
4 generations is 27.96%
8 generations is 67.4%
12 generations is 88.35%
16 generations is 96.35%
20 generations is 98.95%
24 generations is 99.71%
Robert Carson would be 7 generations back for me.
My YDNA results matched exactly with the line of Moses Carson who married Elizabeth Hannah c1760 Lancaster PA and moved to Orange NC then Washington TN. I also matched exactly with the line of John Carson born 1747 of Camden/Chester SC dec'd 1820s Hardin KY.
Moses was family related to James Carson dec'd 1806 Orange NC (wife Mary) and Capt Joseph Carson dec'd 1790 Old 96th SC. Others in this group from Lancaster PA that moved to NC were David Carson married Sarah Woods and William Carson married Margaret McCord. I suspect a connection between some of these and John Carson in Orange NC 1760s, Alexander Carson (decd 1775 Orange NC wife Easter), Alexander Carson (dec'd 1791 Orange NC wife Margaret), James Carson (dec'd 1773 Lancaster PA).
Thanks,
Gary

Patricia,

My mom is a direct line of Thomas Carson & Mary Smith....she was a Carson..her dad was Alexander Francis and his father was Ross Myers, Sr. I have a ton of Carson information in the Washington, PA area. I have a file on Ancestry.com. It is Gysegem/Carson Family and it is public so that you can see anything that you want. There are photos of people and tombstones and homes. Most of my work has been through census, war draft papers and birth/death certs. I don't have anything beyond Thomas because everything is very vague. Still working on that. My grandmother told me that two Carson brothers came to the USA together, but seperated after they got here. Don't know if that is true or not.
If you need more info let me know!!

Hi Michelle,
I just posted another reply on Rootsweb related to the YDNA connections
between Thomas Carson born 1740 of Washington PA and my line (Robert Carson born
1730s of Lancaster PA).
Your Thomas married Mary Smith in New Castle Co DE. The information I was
given said he came over from Scotland although had been in N Ireland prior. I
suspect my line came directly from N Ireland to PA c1740s.
I suspect Thomas and Robert had a common ancestor a few generations prior,
based on the YDNA results chart of probabilities.

Patricia,
I think your Margaret Carson born 1761 who married John Reed in Guilford NC
was a daughter of Robert Carson and Margaret Woods, married 1755 Lancaster
PA. A Robert Carson shows up in Guilford NC 1777-1779. This is the same
couple I believe to be parents of my David Carson born c1760. David shows up
there 1783 and connected to the same families (estate sales) as Robert did. They
both apparently went to Washington/Greene Co TN 1780s.
A descendant of Thomas Carson born 1740 who married Smith (of Washington PA)
never moved to NC although I've seen some apparently erroneous family trees
suggesting he and wife were Margaret's parents. I think that was because
another Thomas named showed up briefly in that area of NC, too young though to
be Margaret's father.
A descendant of Thomas Carson of Washington PA matches closely with my YDNA,
indicating that Thomas is related to my Robert/David Carson line in NC.
Gets complicated!

The Thomas Carson (born 1740) line in Washington Co PA (married Mary Smith in New Castle Co DE) is somehow connected to my Carson line and some other line, based on the YDNA test results. Here is a link to the Carson DNA project where you can view the Results page and the Patriarch page that contains family trees of most participants.
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/carson/
Thomas Carson line is #C-3. My line is listed as David Carson #C-11. Findings indicate that David was a son of Robert Carson and Margaret Woods who married 1755, Lancaster Co PA. They moved to NC then to TN along with the line of Andrew Carson C-12.
