My parents and grand parents claim that we are related to Christopher Carson A.K.A. Kit Carson. I have no information on him or if he was related to the Lynns, or the Bazes. If you know, please tell me.

Hi Peggy,
I think your Carson line in Lancaster PA (Paxtang) and mine may connect, but
I don't know how.
The oldest Carson records in Lancaster were James, John and Samuel
1730s-1750. My Carson group of brothers or cousins shows up in the 1750s, possibly
sons or nephews of some of the older ones.
My group (David, Robert, William and Moses Carson all born c1730s) married
in Lancaster, Paxtang 1753 - 1763 then moved to Orange/Caswell NC together.
Three of their wives were related.
There was a John Carson and two Alexander Carsons already in Orange when
they arrived. Then a James Carson in Orange NC connects via his son's will to
this PA group.
Maybe we can sort it out some more. By the way, a George Carson appears
near mine later in western NC. I don't know which line he is from. It might be
the one in Rutherford NC.
Thanks,
Gary

Thanks, Gary. I have in my records George was the son of John, and that George's siblings were Richard, John, Jean, and Elizabeth. George's children were Robert, John, William Murray, Dianna, Elizabeth, Samuel, and Sarah. (I have no references for this - it's information given to me, and I have not verified it. If anyone can help with references It would be appreciated. Thank you for the reference of the will, Gary.
I have that George Carson married Jane Murray, but have never been able to verify this. Again, it was information given to me, and I don't have a reference.
George's son, Robert, married Elizabeth Welsh, and they founded Carsontown, PA. I'm pretty sure I have the correct information from Robert to present.
Let me know if you would like to combine trees.
Another item of interest: There is another town I visited, north of Harrisburg, called Carsonville. I stopped there at the Carsonville Hotel a few years ago, and was told there were no Carsons living there. I asked which Carsons the town was named after, and they didn't know. They directed me to a gentleman across the road. He was working on a car in his driveway, and he said he thought the Carsons had gone to Ohio. There was an abandoned church next to his house, and he had purchased it. He said there was an old cemetery behind the church, but most of the stones were broken and illegible, and he had taken them to the landfill. A pretty sad story, huh.

Peggy,
The George Carson mentioned in your posting was a son of John Carson dec'd 1778. George is mentioned in the will:
12/1/1777 proved 2/3/1778 John CARSON Paxton Twp (Lancaster PA), exec Richard and George CARSON, children Richard, John, George, Jean, son-in-law James Wilson
Is this your Carson line? My Carson line was from the same Paxtang twp 1730-1770. They moved to Orange/Caswell and Guilford NC 1770s.
Gary

Hi Becky,
I descend from a Carson line (David, William, Robert, Moses and others) that was in Lancaster PA 1730-1770, then moved to NC and elsewhere.
Are there any male Carson individuals in your line that have considered doing the YDNA test?
Thanks,

Hi Judy,
I descend from a Carson line (David, William, Robert, Moses and maybe James, Alexander and John) that was in Lancaster PA 1730-1770, then moved to NC and elsewhere.
Are there any male Carson individuals in your line that have considered doing the YDNA test? I'm trying to determine which other lines may connect since there were such a cluster of Carsons in that area at that time.
Thanks,

Hi Dick,
I saw your postings on your Carson line from Maine. Some time ago, I traced the ancestors of the late entertainer, Johnny Carson (John William Carson) back to Maine. How long has your line been in Maine?
Have any male Carsons in your line done the YDNA test? I did it, and it helped me narrow down my research presumptions significantly.
My Carson line (David, William, Robert, Moses and probably connecting to Alexander, James, John and Thomas) came to PA/DE around 1730-1750 (Lancaster Co and maybe Cumberland Co PA) then went to NC. My DNA matches other Carsons connected to Chester SC, Abbeville SC, Washington Co PA, Orange NC and later in eastern TN.
Thanks,
Gary Carson

I am interested in Carson's that were from the Augusta Co. Va. area in the
1700's. Isaac Carson b. abt 1743 in particular whose wife was Rebecca
Hogshead--Their children were Jane, Mary, Rebecca, Agnes, Abraham and Isaac Jr. I am
descended from Jane who married Robert McCauley in 1794.
I am also intersted in Simon Carson b. 1769 who married Martha Rebecca
Williams in the early 1790's. Martha received a plantation in northern Virginia as
a wedding present from Elisha Williams her father and the home is now a Bed
and Breakfast named "Pleasant Green Gardens" in Stephen City VA. I am descended
from this line of Williams as well.
Anything look familiar? Jackie

In reply to the query: "Where did you find this source?"
This information came from the Indiana State Archives in Indianapolis, Indiana.
They have an index on a database(not online yet), and the information about William CARSON is in Volume D, Page 226, located on Microfilm roll number 2 in cabinet 401-F-2.
