I recently purchased an old photo at an antique shop in Illinois. The photo is labeled on the front "George Carson, Fred Welch and Ina Carson". The photo shows two men and two young women lounging in front of a nice house. There are no other markings on the photo. If these are your ancestors, please contact me.

Valerie,
What a shame.
Samuel Carson was born September 19, 1783 in Washington Co., Virginia. He married Mary Watson about 1827. He died in 1847 and is buried in the Rock Springs Cemetery in Rockcastle Co., Kentucky.
He is the son of David Carson who was born about 1741 and died about 1803. David lived and worked as a surveyor in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. In about 1765, David married Elizabeth Dysart, who was born about 1745. Both David Carson and his wife Elizabeth are buried in old Moore Cemetery in Liberty Hall, Washington Co., Virginia.

In June of 2004 several ladies from the Pulaski County
Historical Society and myself were visiting Rock Springs
Cemetery in Rockcastle County. We discovered that there
were several graves outside the fenced cemetery. The stones are broken and lying flat on the ground. Cattle are allowed to run in this pasture. Regardless we found the
headstone of one Samuel Carson. Stone reads:
In Memory of Samuel Carson
Born Sept 12, 1783
and died 1847
This is likely one of these Carsons. If you have any information, please contact me.

I'm assuming you're replying to Jacque's posting from 2003. What was the name of the VA person of interest? I have some related information on the ones moving to NC.
The Thomas Carson she mentioned in her posting was born 1740 Scotland died 1816 Washington Co PA. He married Mary Smith in New Castle DE. They had children James b1762, Margaret b1766, Thomas G b1769, Mary b1771, Elizabeth b1775, William b1777, Joseph b1777, Sarah b1779, Lydia b1781, Rebecca b1784 and John Clarkson Carson b1788.
One of his descendants is an exact DNA match with me at 25 markers. He indicated to me that they don't know Thomas's brothers or parents for certain.
The Carsons from our line who are blood related to Thomas Carson somehow moved from Lancaster PA to NC (Rowan, Orange, Caswell) in the 1760s-1770s. These were Moses Carson born c1737 (married Elizabeth Hannah c1763), David Carson born c1730-35 (married Sarah Woods 1753), William Carson born c1730-35 (married Margaret McCord 1760) and Robert Carson born c1730-35 (married Margaret Woods 1755).
They may connect to a William Carson (wife Maryann) who died 1759 in Rowan NC, mentioning brother Robert, cousin William and daughter Susanne (underage)in his will. Some think his cousin was William, father of Lindsey and grandfather of Kit. That was the only known William nearby at the time.
The Lancaster bunch may also connect to Alexander Carson (wife Easter, sons John, James, Alexander, Samuel) who died 1775 Orange NC, a John Carson in Orange Co NC 1750s-1760s and an Alexander Carson (wife Margaret, sons Robert, David, Samuel) who died 1792. Moses connects with James Carson (wife Mary, sons David and Robert) also in Orange NC who died after 1800. The latter Alexander and James Carson in Orange may be sons or nephews of the older Alexander. A James Carson who died 1773 Lancaster PA mentioned a brother Alexander in his will (location not mentioned).

See my posting of Jan 7, 2007. Sounds like this is a possibility for the one I am looking for. Do you know the names of thomas' brothers who went to Virgina and NC? I am particularly interested in the one who went to Virginia. Have you learned the parents names of the three brothers who came to America since your posting?

Good evening this Susan Carson is the older sister of my father. My father is the grandson of Erastus Carson, the great grand son of John Carson of hector, NY and the great great grandson of Samuel Carson who came from Ireland about 1795 and settled in Virgil in Cortland County, New York about 1802. We are always looking for info connecting our Samuel Carson to the other Carson families. It is quite possible that his father's name was John put we really have no proof. We know from his registration as an alien in 1812 the names of his children. He have them all identified but a William born about 1808 in Cortland County. Recently, there has been several post regarding Kit Carson, the frontiersman and different people relationships. Our family too has that tradition. I really would like to see our list all work together to identify all of our brick walls and connect our families. Marilyn

I now have more information about this family but still not everything I need. William Carson (parents Joseph Carson and Mary Irwin) and Ellen McIlwraith (parents Alexander McIlwraith and Anne Currans) married in Knockmany, Ireland in 1877. Their first son, Alexander was born in Glasgow in 1878. I have now discovered that they lived in America from around 1880-1887. During this time they had another two sons - William Thomas, born in Enfield, Conn on 1 Nov 1882 and Marvel (birth details not known but, when he died in 1889, his christian name was shown as Irwin). It seems they stopped off in Ireland for three months and during that time another son, Joseph, was born (again not much detail other than that he was born in November 1887.) They then returned to Glasgow and on 26 February 1890 their fifth son, Samuel, was born there.
I am still having difficulty tracing all details of William, Joseph and Samuel but I have made some progress. I know that William married Catherine (surname unknown) and by 1920 they were living at 543 Harris Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island with two sons, William Andrew, (born Tyrone, Ireland, 3 Sep 1909) and Wilfred (born Providence, Rhode Island, 10 May 1918) but the trail has gone cold there. I already knew that Joseph had returned to Ireland but have now found out that he was married to Mary Elizabeth (again surname unknown) but so far I have made no progress in tracing Samuel.
I know that this is a lot of information but if someone can fill in any more of the blanks for me I would be grateful.
Thanks
Mary
