The Wilkes County Papers 1773-1833 compiled by Robert Scott Davis, Jr.
These are loose papers from Court, Estate, Land, School, Military, Marriage
and other records.
Robert Carithers is listed among a list of Petit Jurors to be summoned, 6
Nov 1792.
Daniel Stamper, for the use of Charles Heard, vs. Jesse Caruther, debt, May
Term 1822, Inferior Court. Recorded in Book E., fo. 143
The Supplement to: The Wilkes County Papers (1773-1889)
William Carruthers is listed on the New List of Soldiers Who Fought at the
Battle of Kettle Creek (14 Feb 1779), Upper Ninety Six Regiment South
Carolina Militia (200 men). There is a footnote stating William was
mentioned in John Cunningham Accounts Audited 1690. I believe the 1690 to
be an identification number not a date.
Wm. Carothers is also on the list of militiamen who lost property while
serving under Capt. Andrew Pickens in 1779. A copy of the original record
would have to be obtained to see exactly what property was lost. From
reading the paragraph preceding the list I think the record is found in the
Auditor General Account Book 1778-1780, pp. 160-163, South Carolina
Department of Archives and History.
