Gram:
There are so many Carithers, Caruthers, Careathers, Carothers....and
zillions of James..I have one in my line....so be aware of that....
Do you have anymore info........to point you to VA? There were 3 migrations
of Scot/Irish into this country in 1700's...they filtered down into Va on
the way to NC and SC..heading for Ga...My group got stuck in SC...and all
served in the Rev War..if your ancestor served you can track his military
record in the National Archives....Good Luck..Jan

Subject: Re: [Carruthers] Caruthers in Wilkes Co., GA
Thanks, Rochelle, for your Caruthers information.
I am interested in the Deed Book LL, 1794, where it mentions a James
Caruthers, JP of Rockbridge Co., VA proving a power of attorney. There
was
a James Caruthers of Rockbridge Co., VA who married a Jane Gould in
that
county in 1792. Family rumor says that my Greatgreatgreatgrandfather was
a
James Caruthers, so I am intrigued by this mention of James
Caruthers.
Three
of the children of my ggggrandfather married in SW VA, and some said
they
were born in TN (which might have been VA at one point in time). I have
searched Augusta, Scott, and Washington Counties in VA as well as Blount
Co., TN where a Rev War veteran later lived who served in VA. I think my
next trip out East will include Rockbridge Co., VA.
I appreciate your thoughtfulness in providing all of the Caruthers (var.
spellings) info.
Regards,
Marilyn in Michigan
