Did anyone ever explore the possibility that Rochlannah, Rochsolannah...was
the victim of phonetic spelling which was prevalent in those days...few
could read and write ...and those that did relied on phonetics mainly which
of course led to some whimsical spellings (carothers, cruither, careathers,
carithers) for Caruthers....perhaps her name really was : ROXANNA....just a
thought....

Barry
and all
I do have that one ref- of Rochlannah being married to
John
Martin , because in the March 20 1738 the land deeds state that she
is
the widow of. The records I'm reading from are from the Records of Carven
country NC volume one. It also has a Solomon Witherington selling to
John Martin a tract of 150 acres on the south side of bay river part of
the
122l acres patented by Neal O" Neal. Francis Delamar and
Benjamin Rice
witnesses. So we know that Rochlanah was living in Carven Co in 1738
according to the land deeds.
