Dear list,
I think we started off with William de Carruthers, who made the donation to
Newbattle Midlothian in reign of Alexander 11 (1215 - 1245).Then there is a
generation unknown but a Simon parson of Middlebie is mentioned in 1296
Then John de Carruthers mentioned 1328.
He had four sons:1. Thomas 1st of Mouswald who married Joan daughter of
Robert de Appleden Charter 1320 mentioned 1333/4. He is possibly ancestor of
certain families in North East England.2. William 2nd of Mouswald Charter of
Middlebie 1345. 3. John Kings Chancellor of Annandale 1349 he is probably
the ancestor of Holmains and Dormont line so John 1st. The fourth son was
Sir Nigel Chamberlin to the regent killed at battle of Nevilles Cross Durham
October 17 1346.
Note William's family then headed the Mouswald Line while John, Holmains and
Dormont line.
Is that how anyone else reads it ? This is from The Carruthers Record by
Stanley and Reed.
