Hi Glen...
Actually, my question is not whether William m. Margaret McCroskey is different
from William m. Isabelle Bicham; like you said, that's pretty well proven. My
question is that maybe William m. Isabelle Bicham and William m. Margaret
McCarthy are actually different people -- in other words, it wasn't two
marriages for the same man, but two separate men. I'm wondering if anyone has
actual _proof_ that William Carruthers was one person who m. (1) Isabelle
Bicham and (2) Margaret McCarthy. I haven't seen any; I _think_ it's a guess
based on the fact that both marriages produced kids who ended up in southern
Louisiana, and so the assumption was that it was one man who had married twice.
BTW, William Carruthers and Margaret McCarthy did have at least one child -- a
daughter, Margaret, who ended up in southern Louisiana where she married an
Acadian French exile named Jean Boudreaux. These two are my wife's direct
forebears.
Cheers,

First, from my research, below we have (2) different Williams
1) William Carruthers b. abt 1722 m. Margaret McCroskey in Augusta County.
Pa., USA, children were Esther m. Henry McClung, John m. Ann Poage, Joseph
m. Rachel Trimble, Rachel m. Unknown Wilson, Robert m. Anne Alexander ,
Samuel m. Rebecca Moffitt and James m. Hannah Paxton.
2) William Carruthers 1740-1808 m (1) Elizabeth (Bacon) Bicham (I have seen
several spellings in the last name most researchers are saying Bicham)
children were Mary (Caruthers) Carruthers, Sarah (Caruthers) Carruthers,
Thomas (Caruthers) Carruthers, James (Caruthers) Carruthers m. Elizabeth
Sanders, David Onesime (Caruthers) Carruthers 1765-October 31, 1825.
William's second wife (2) was Margaret MacCarthy ( I have seen different
spellings of this as well), I list no children from this last union.
Hope this helps, and always open for new theories......Glen
