David,
(I know I still owe you & Martha that New Bern Plat). The Bangs Dean Dudley
16x11" chart covers ~1623 landing of the ANNe to mid 1700s. It does ref only a few
names we believe we know were connected, but, in a brief revue (lots to review) Carruthers
does not appear to actually be a name mentioned by Dudley...: probably too crude. bw 16

We do have a W'ton researcher who has included the Bangs, after a fashion, in a
quite complete many page Tree. I need to discuss w/him if he can provide this info to our
researchers. Pls remind me in a few months, perhaps Oct - OK to pre-remind me in Sep! bw
(I am confident that the Carruthers md into these Bangs. I have NOT done a google of this
conclusion! bw)

Subject: Carruthers, Bangs, Hubbard (Hobart)
From what I understand, Edmund Hubbard (Hobart) was the father-in-law of Edward
Bangs, possible ancestor of Jonathan Bangs of New Bern, NC (but originally from
Massachusetts). Have we decided if the Carruthers family was from Massachusetts as well?
Is there a possible line of descent from the Bangs family to our Carruthers family in
New Bern, NC (specifically to John Carruthers who married Sarah Jones)???
I am pasting some information below relative to Edmund Hubbard who assigned a POA
to one William Bladen, "alderman of Dublin." This William Bladen was from the
Derbyshire Bladen family....thus, a different family from that of Martin Bladen (possible
uncle to John Rice, Sr. who married Sarah Carruthers) who stems from the Yorkshire Bladen
family. According to Karen Proudler, Bladen Family Researcher, no connection has been
found thus far between the two different Bladen families.
Karen states that the Derbyshire Bladens (who later lived in Dublin, Ireland)
owned property in Massachusetts and she has also located a land patent in New Kent Co., VA
for one "Joseph Blayden." Interestingly, Edmund Hubbard's second wife was
Sarah Oakley Lyford, widow of the Rev. John Lyford who apparently died in Virginia in
1628. Lyford owned property in Dublin, which is the reason for the assignment of the POA
to William Bladen.
You may also find Karen's website of interest as follows:

I'm not sure any of this is significant. However, I thought I'd share in
hopes this information may lead to some other discovery. I know there has been much
discussion of a possible connection with the well known Bangs family of Massachusetts.
Considering now this Edmund Hubbard information, it would be even more amazing if we could
find a connection!
Thanks!
David
P.S. Pasted below is the information on Edmund Hubbard:

Christie,
There's a lot of info available on Lyford and his associates to be
found in NEHGR. For the present, I'll merely quote the following
(which, based on your earlier queries), I assume to be the basis of
your present message:
NEHGR 40:270 (July 1886), "New England Gleanings" (this is part of
an ongoing series of this title which presented extracts of
"genealogical matter" from Lechford's Note Book; the author of the
article states "The dates of the entries are omitted, but they are
all between the years 1638 and 1641.")
"Edmund Hubbard of Hingham in N.E. married Sarah, widow of Rev.
John Lyford, who had children Rev. Obadiah and Mordecai L. The
last-named made Hubbard his guardian, who appointed William Bladen, Alderman of
Dublin, and John Fisher of the same place, attorneys to sell a lease at Leballeglish, co.
Ardmagh. Mentions land in co. Tyrone."
Apparently, Rev. Lyford had acquired property and property rights in Ireland,
hence the need for the services of attorneys in Dublin to sell, at least, a lease (in
right of his two sons and heirs...). This suggests that Rev. Lyford had been in Ireland
for some time (and probably expected to return there eventually).
