To All,
Great idea; I would like to show up at the door of my GGG Gf John Lytle
1810 Scipio, New York, USA on a snow storm evening unannounced as a
weary travler on Christmas eve laden with a turkey, bread, vegetables,
cranbury's and stuffing packages for a feast a long with some spiced rum
(and coke cola)and gifts for all!
I would ask who it was that crossed the Atlantic to settle in NJ and
what life was like in Ulster Plantation during the 1600s and why the
family left the borders of Scotland and from where? I would ask of
family traditions that reach back into the middle ages and ask of lifes
joys and sorrows which they have endured as a family; and why the hell
John Lytle moved to Cayuga County, NY(?).
Oh yes to feast with the relatives; what an inspired question to stir
our longings to understand our past!
Some one has cast the aura of the Christmas spirit! Well done!

Subject: [DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY] Invite an ancestor
If only it were possible to invite an ancestor to a Christmas dinner!!
I would undoubtedly invite my Great Grandmother x 4 Mary BELL babt. 1700
in St. Mungo - Daughter of John BELL in Bankside she married William
CARRUTHERS of GUILEBURN, Kirkmahoe, Dumfriesshire.
I would ask her the names of her children & grandchildren.
Secondly I would ask her if or how she is related to her husbands great
great grandmother an unknown BELL babt. 1598 - abt. 1679 she married
Francis CARRUTHERS the 3rd of DORMONT.
I would then take great pleasure in showing them my extensive family
tree, sit back with a couple of home brews, listen carefully & take
notes.
Hypothetically of course!!!
