Hi Barry,
I don't think this e-mailing was meant for me but just wanted to tell
you that I looked at the indexes on
Genealogy.com and found John Carruthers
(note spelling) in 1790 NC, Craven County (Newburn Dist.). But there was also
a John Carruthers in Mecklenbug, NC at the same time--three of them, actually
(in 1790)! I think this is probably all the same family (mine). So the John
whose will is in Craven Co. NC, 1750 wouldn't be the same John who went to
Mecklenburg--unless of course the 1790 John in Craven Co. is a descendant.
It's hard to tell from those old censuses since they don't have the family
members named or even specific ages of the household.
In 1810 (this is all mostly from census indexes at
Genealogy.com) I
found James Carothers Sr. in York Co. SC and there is a SAMUEL apparently
living right next to him. I think this is my Samuel Carothers (great-great
grandfather) and he later went to Madison County, TN.
Again, thanks for all information!
Sincerely,
Betty (Catherwood--Vonskipper(a)aol.com)
