Hi Earl,
Thanks for writing and also so very much for all the information about
James Carothers. I'm writing you through the Carruthers list because the
letter I sent to you personally was returned to me undeliverable, for some reason.
I guess we must be fifth cousins? It does get confusing sometimes. I'm
wondering if you have any information about Samuel Carothers and Nancy Neely's
children? Someone told me a long time ago that they had two or three sons born
between 1805-1815 or so, and I think their names were Thomas, James and Samuel
(not certain). Then Nancy died but no one seems to know exactly when Samuel
married Rachel Robertson, my ancestor. It must have been during the early
1820s, though. They also seem to have had a son named Samuel, so perhaps some of
this information about the younger son named Samuel was incorrect, unless
this son died when very young.
I was once given the information that Samuel Sr. died in 1847 in
Hickman Co. but Familysearch says it was Madison Co. TN, which would make more sense
because he lived there a number of years and I found Rachel Carothers and
family there in the 1850 census.. So James died in 1847, too, but in Tipton Co.
TN? I think I must have gotten this confused, too, but I believe someone once
told me it was SAMUEL who died in Tipton Co. Somehow a couple Samuels got
mixed up with each other, I guess..
Yes, I would be very interested in having any other information you
have about the Carothers family. I only have a dial-upconnection, by the way.
Again thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Betty Catherwood
