Thanks for this information on Rocksolanah,. I have also seen the book -
it is in the N.C. Historical Library. I agree completely that there were
two Rocksolanahs!!

Subject: [CARRUTHERS] Rocksolanah Carruthers Martin
I was in the Kellenberger Room the other day (the genealogy room in
the New Bern library) and found a book on the Carruthers family that
I'd never seen before. It was done by Elizabeth Moore, one of the most
well-respected genealogists who has contributed reams upon reams of
information to the libraries and archives here in North Carolina.
In it, it seems I found the answer to something that's been worrying
me for quite some time-- namely, was Rocksalanah Carruthers Martin the
sister or the daughter of John Carruthers?
It appears the answer can be verified that she was the SISTER, and not
the same Rocksolanah as John Carruther's daughter.
Here's why:
I found a deed entry from 1766 that specifically refers to her as
"Rocksalanah Martin", and she signs it "Rocksalanah Martin." Another
signer is Joseph Martin, who I'm assuming is one of her sons with her
deceased husband, John.
This may have already been posted to this group, so I won't post it
now in order to avoid being redundant, but if anyone is interested in
it then let me know and I'll be happy to type it up.
There are close to 30 pages on the Carruthers from this book-- I only
got records through 1800 copied because I had limited funds and my
latest Carruthers ancestor is Rocksolanah who married John
Witherington.
