Hi Martha,
First, Bill & I have been together at this for years, including at W'ton
reunions (including w/Jean at Witherington Historic Farm in AL), online
discussions, meeting at his Houston home, etc etc. Bill has a mountain of
well developed W'ton info, going back to & before the 1772 Kings 200 acre
Lynches Creek SC Grant to Wm W'ton, see below. He has his Line more
established than do I by far. He & Jean have also been working together for
many yrs. (Bill, have you encountered any Phillips?
Below is another Carruthers/Phillips connection:
Samuel Caruthers, b 1798 GA, Orange Co, Florida md Mary Anne Phillips
w/issue - any help? Any Carruthers researchers have more Carruthers/Phillips
connections?
Also, note 'our' strong DuBose connection.
I'd like to focus your Phillips research thoughts/ suggestion so we (I)
don't wander too much.
I'm heading to PA for a few days - I'll call upon return, or call my cel
anytime.

PS: We have a wonderful non-online Martin researcher. Are there Phillips/
Martin connections? Just asking.

Plus - for Bill
Ruth sent the following this morning that you had sent her. I assume the
Daniel mentioned above was the son of this William Jr and Sarah Stanley.
Probably you have the little I have which came from Bill King at
BillKing(a)houston.rr.com who researches Witherington, King, Coleman families
I have it because Sands Stanley married Zilpha Edwards of my Edwards family
of Dobbs. Their dau Zilpha Stanley m. John King, Sr., Bill says, and a
younger dau, Sarah "Sally" Stanley, m. William Witherington, Jr. on Feb.
13, 1794, Darlington District, SC.

Subject: Thank you-Land Grant 1772
Thank you so much for the copy of William Witherington Land Grant of 1772- I
am curious what happened to his wife. When Penelope Jane DuBose Stuckey was
murdered, it was reported that she had been to visit her grandmother.
According to researcher's material available, that would have been Mrs.
Andrew DuBose and Mrs. William Witherington. Mrs. Andrew DuBose, if living
in 1825, would have been 116 years old.
However, Mrs. William Witherington would have been about 84. A much more
probable circumstance. Was she living and in Sumter (now Lee) Co., SC in Feb
1825?
Something to ponder...
