Hi Anne,
At one point in time, you asked if the Bangs Yale Collection was open to
the public. It is, and I'll copy some info below FYI.
Someone, I don't recall who, also mentioned that the collection was
limited to more recent activities. Below is some indication to the contrary.
I don't imagine you get up to Connecticut often from J'ville, but if you
do, or if anyone gets over there, Best of Luck!
Barry

RESTRICTIONS ON ACCESS
This collection is open for research.
JOHN KENDRICK BANGS (1862-1922)
Hi again all,
There are two articles in "Great Migration Begins" by Robert Charles
Anderson, Immigrants to New England 1620-1633" that deals with the immigrant
Edward Bangs and also with Robert Hicks. If you have access it will spell
out in great detail the early years of these families.
On the Jonathan Bangs, Jr. (who was son of Jonathan Bangs and Mary Mayo) m.
1. Elizabeth and 2. Elizabeth Berry, dtr. of John Berry, I have the
following data accumulated.
The first Elizabeth had
Samuel, b. c. Sept. 1696, d. 22 Dec. 1720, unm.
Jonathan, b. c. Dec, 1698, d.__________,m 1st Ruth Bangs, 2nd Abiah
Carruthers.
Thankful, b. c. Feb. 1702/3, d.______m. John Covell 16 Aug. 1721.
William, b. c. May 1707. d.______. m. unk.
The ch. of the 2nd Elizabeth are
Elizabeth, b. 6 March, 1722, d._____,m. Ichabod Vickery 3 March 1729.
John, b. 11 Aug. 1714, d. 13 May, 1743, m. unk.
James, b. 4 Apr. 1716, d. 9 Feb. 1742, m. Bethia Wing 7 Feb. 1735/6.
Mary (twin), b. 12 March 1717, d. unk., m. unk.
Hubbard (twin), b. 12 March, 1717, d. 25 Mar. 1718.
Abner, b. 1 Aug. 1720, d. c. 1804 in N.Y., m. Sarah Hopkins.
Samuel, bp. 23 Sept. 1722, d. 1 Mar. 1787 Oblong, Ny., m. Hannah Wing 5 Apr.
1744
Mercy, b. 5 Apr. 1724, d. unk., m. unk.
Elisha, b.21 Dec. 1727, d. 18 June 1816 Lenox, Mass., m. Sarah Paddock.
Mehitabel, b. 12 Apr. 1730, d. unk, m. unk.
I do not find that Jonathan Bangs b. Dec. 1698 had a sibling named Content
Bangs. Is there some documentation somewhere that states this.
I do find that in his will, Jonathan Bangs listed his ch. as Jonathan,
Thankful, Elizabeth, John, James, Mary, Abner, Mercy and Elisha. He did not
mention Samuel, William, Hubbard or Mehitabel, so if Content was a dtr. she
died before Feb. 1736/7 the date of his will.
Does anyone have the m. date of Jonathan to Abiah Carruthers or any info. on
the Ruth he was 1st m. to. I see that she is listed as Ruth Bangs, but was
that her maiden name? And does anyone know why or how they ended up in No.
Car.
I hope this makes some sense.
I am not familar with the Yale papers that were mentioned. Is there limited
access to them?
My own ancestry in the Bangs line starts with Edward (1) and Rebecca
Jonathan and Mary Mayo>Samuel and Mary Hinkley> Seth and Deborah
Chipman>Seth Bangs and Rebecca Phinney>Seth and Sarah Chisholm>Lucy and
George Hewett.
Corrections and all input happily accepted.
