On 2-1-1788 John Johnstone, portioner in Dicksontown, was seized (became the
owner) in the lands of Bogside in Tundergarth through a charter by Viscount
Stormott. Bogside is described as containing houses and land but little
else. There are no mill, woods, fishing rights or common pasture, each of
which would have been mentioned if it had existed.
It is narrated that William Graham of Corrielaw obtained a decreet against
John Carruthers of Bogside. John Carruthers had been charged to enter heir
to his uncle, the deceased George Carruthers of Bogside and to his father,
John Carruthers of Bogside.
(Before you could pursue someone for their forebears' debts, he had to be
served heir. If he wished he could renounce heirship, and all the forebears
goods would be divided among the creditors.)
Graham, who was himself heavily in debt, was owed 317 pounds-2/ by deceased
George and deceased John Carruthers.......
Does this fit in with any one?
