These surnames have been connected by various transactions (wills,
deeds, taxes. location, etc), primarily in the mid-Atlantic states
(MD/NC/VA) and migrating therefrom. We wonder if anyone interested in
these surnames has experienced a similar connection.
Below are a few representative records that reflect a few of these
'connections' - there are others.
Look forward to any help you might have, and of course, if we can
locate further records to assist you, we are delighted to do so.

Robert Widdringtone/Witherington (d.1722) was married to Elizabeth
Dare sister of Nathaniel Dare (died 1742, m. to Mary ???). This Mary is
certainly the "Mrs. Aunt Mary Dare" that is mentioned in Robert's Will.
[This means that the speculation that the Aunt Mary Dare was Robert's
sister is incorrect. I know of no evidence that Robert had a sister
Mary...Does anyone have evidence of a sister for Robert?]
The new relationship information is in a Will for Elizabeth and
Nathaniel's sister, Amy Dare Martin Hennington Battson (died 1720). The
Amy Battson Will mentions her brother Nathaniel and wife Mary and her
"sister Elizabeth Witherton". The sister Amy was married three time--no
wonder she was hard to find.
These three-Eliz, Nat & Amy are believed to be the children of
Nathaniel Dare (d. 1699) and Elizabeth Cleve(r)ly, but this needs to be
verified. I believe that one secondary source had Nathaniel married to
Mary Cleverly..which I now doubt.. There are many Nathaniels to deal
with. I have not actually seen the Amy Dare Battson Will yet, but will
get my hands on it to verify this info once and for all. The Dare's
owned over 2000 acres at one time. The land is now the area of the
Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.

Query! Elizabeth Binkes (Bincks) is the wife of Nathaniel Dare by August
27, 1684. The information does not give the date of death of Thomas
Binkes but the implication is that he had died fairly recently. If our
other information is also correct that Nathaniel Dare who died in 1742
was born in about 1678, then Elizabeth Cleverly Binkes Dare would likely
not be the mother of Nathaniel d 1742. One would also have to wonder if
Amy Dare who apparently had outlived a third husband by 1711 was also
likely too old to be the daughter of Elizabeth Cleverly. Say Amy had
been born by 1785 and married at age 16 (about 1701), then she would
have had three husbands in about 10 years. That did not leave much time
for mourning. It seems more likely that Nathaniel, Amy and perhaps Mary
also were the children of a first marriage by Nathaniel (d 1698).

Subject: Dare Genealogy
Hi all, Mike, there is still an unsolved issue with Nathaniel Dare (d
1698) and Elizabeth Cleverly Binkes Dare. The information available
indicates that Elizabeth Binkes is the wife of Nathaniel Dare by August
27, 1684.
The information does not give the date of death of Thomas Binkes but the
implication is that he had died fairly recently. If our other
information is also correct that Nathaniel Dare who died in 1742 was
born in about 1678, then Elizabeth Cleverly Binkes Dare would likely not
be the mother of Nathaniel d 1742. One would also have to wonder if Amy
Dare who apparently had outlived a third husband by 1711 was also likely
too old to be the daughter of Elizabeth Cleverly. Say Amy had been born
by 1785 and married at age 16 (about 1701), then she would have had
three husbands in about 10 years. That did not leave much time for
mourning. It seems more likely that Nathaniel, Amy and perhaps Mary
also were the children of a first marriage by Nathaniel (d 1698).
