Hi Carruthers (& Wetheringtons), [Wm Carruthers 1698 md Joanne, 8 children John,
James, Thomas, Abiah, Rocksolanah, Elizabeth, Mary Wm Jr]
Deborah Carothers Hanson's msg below sure looks VERY interesting for 'our'
John Carruthers md Content (Bangs?) f/o my GGG Gm Rocksolannah Carruthers md John
Wetherington. And almost as interesting has been the very recent exchange of Carruthers
msgs, some excerpted below, all contained in the Archives:

"Joan,We do have a few Thoma's in our family, in Scotland William & Joanne
Carruthers were in Scotland in 1698 and they had 8 children that I know of John, James,
Thomas, Abiah, Rocksolanah, Elizabeth, Mary and William Jr . Thomas had a son named
after him. and I have Carruthers line sheet for Mouswald starting with William de
Carruthers in 1320 and the Holmains starting with John de Carruthers there are several
Thomas's mentioned. if you like I could send you this information.
Deborah Carothers
Hanson"
Also, Terry's Cruthirds' continuing sharing:
A while back I wrote a cousin of J. A. Carruthers in Dormont about the family. Jamie
Carruthers, 13th of Dormont, was seeking support for partial restoration of Little Dalton
Kirk, which served Little Dalton, not far from Holmains.
Apparently many Carrutherses worshipped there. I believe their efforts were successful.
There is a very nice Carruthers Coat of Arms on the Kirk page
(
www.netcomuk.co.uk/~jbirchmo/home.html).
Terry
PS: By the way, the SC Carrutherses changed the name to Cruthirds after Nathaniel's
death.
I would like to know how you have these folks now.

My line starts with what I have found out so far, With William Carruthers -b-1682 and
his wife Joanne-b-1686 in Howmaine, Scotland have not been able to find, I've been
told that it could have been changed. They were my 6th GGrandpts so as follows, they had
three sons could be more they were John,Jas,and Thomas. John ( my 5th GGrandfather b-1708
in Howmaine) He married Content (Bangs)? Their children were Rochsolannah, John, Frances,
William (4th GGrandfather married Sarah Harvey ) Joseph and Sarah. I have been told they
were all born in Cumberland Pa and from there went to NC in Craven co where I do have a
Will for John and what he left each Child , he die in1751 and Content in 1752. I have a
record of William and Sarah in Elbert co Georgia on march the 3, 1798 due to the
purchase of land from a Thomas Gregg. Their children were Samuel, Naomi, William, Andrew
(3rd GGrandfather married Catherine Howell) and Sarah. I do know that William served in
the A_R_War in Rowan Ga. I have applied to The DAR, just waiting for my papers .Andrew and
his wife along with his brothers Samuel, William and there sister Naomi move to Hickman co
Tenn in 1807.
Andrews children were William Howell (2 GGrandfather he married Sarah Lacy and Sarah
Barr), Jenne Elizabeth, Andrew, Mary (polly) and Susanah. William first married Sarah
Lacy they had William, Howell, James, she die 1833 the same year James was born. in 1834
he married Sarah Barr They had Sarah Jane, Samuel Moore, Stephen E, Alice R, Andrew and
Amiz B (my GGrandfather he married Annie Hicks ) they were all born in Tenn.
In 1880 Amiz and Stephen and his wife Alice along with there father William came to
Goldthwaitie Tx Amiz married Annie in Tx but she was from Tenn Also, that is where my
Grandfather Robert Oscar was born along with his sister Beulah and brother Grover the
rest of the children were born in Rochester Tx this is the town that my GGrandfather
helped est. the other children were Mary, Maude, Myrtle, Lila, William, Alice, Leslie and
Gilbert.
My Grandfather Robert Oscar went by Oscar married Lulu Lovelady and they had Annie Sue,
Beulah Ben, Lulu die in 1912 he married my grandmother Juanita Howell in 1918 now she had
a Daughter Nadean who was 3 at that time have not been able to fine out if my Grandmother
was married before, because Nadean went by Carothers they had two children Bobbie Sue and
Robert Oscar Jr he went by RO this is may Dad he married June Elizabeth Filleman on July
21 1949 they had two daughters me and my sister Barbara Ann . does any of this ring a
bell with anyone I am looking for kin.

John Andrews did a little work for me about 10 years ago, but not much new turned up.
Nathaniel Carruthers apparently went to Perquimans Co., NC about 1721. In his will,
written in 1745, probated 1750, he mentions sons James, Jacob and John. In another
document in 1767 a Nathaniel is mentioned as a grandson of the first Nathaniel and son of
Jacob. I believe the Nathaniel who went to SC is from this line.
THe SC Nathaniel arrived in Darlington around 1799; he is listed as "Nathan
Cruthers" in the 1800 Census. The settling of his estate mentions wife Keziah
(Gainey), sons Robert, Reddick and George, daughters Sarah, Dicey and Rachel.
In the 1810 Census Keziah is listed as "Crathers." In 1820 and thereon the name
is "Cruthirds." Both Robert and Reddick went to MS, Robert winding up on the
Gulf Coast and Reddick in what is now Calhoun (see the SC connection) County. Reddick is
my gr-gr-gr-grandfather.
I have corresponded with Tommy, however I'm more confused after than before. He has a
cousin, "Woody," more easily understood.

Hi Terry,
This is the first I've heard of the 1802 name change ["the SC Carrutherses
changed the name to Cruthirds after Nathaniel's death"]. Our research had
determined that Rocksolannah Carruthers d/o John md John Wetherington was my GG Gm. She
lived on Lot # 98 catty-cornered to the Tryon Palace in New Bern NC. I would like to post
this for further comment. Please send us more if you can - this is important. We have
other impor questions re: 'our' activities in the Darlington District, SC (have
you worked w/ John Andrews there)? I have no good answers to your questions.
Look fwd to more discussion.

Dear Barry,
In perusing your message re: John C. and Content Carruthers, I wonder how you have
now put together these Carrutherses. I have been mulling over these families for some
time, and I'm still not sure how they fit together.
My gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather was Nathaniel Carruthers, d. 1802, Darlington District, SC.
I feel sure he is a descendant of Nathaniel Carruthers who died about 1749, Perquimans
Co., NC. Surely all these families were related, but exactly how?
By the way, the SC Carrutherses changed the name to Cruthirds after Nathaniel's
death.
I would like to know how you have these folks now.
Terry Cruthirds
