Greetings in Australia Day.
With the assistance Sarah Lowther on the Somerset List, I think I've got a lead to my
g.g.g.grandmother, Mary CARRUTHERS (nee SALKELD).
In the 1851 census there was a family of women living at 17 Drovers Lane, Carlisle.
Mary CARRUTHERS Head Widow 55yrs Nurse Born Cumberland
Mary CARRUTHERS Daug Unm 31yrs Spinner Cotton Born Cumberland
Elizabeth CARRUTHERS Daug Unm 22yrs Spinner Cotton Born Cumberland
Anne CARRUTHERS Daug Unm 20yrs Spinner Cotton Born Cumberland
Robertina CARRUTHERS Daug Unm 18yrs Spinner Cotton Born Cumberland
IGI has them all born about the right dates and the father was Robert CARRUTHERS.
All things being equal, they are the mother and siblings of my g.g.grandfather Robert
Salkeld CARRUTHERS born in 1822 who emigrated to Australia in 1850 so missed the census.
Further record on IGI say Robertina married Robert Cowan on Christmas day 1852 in Carlisle
and Ann married John Alderson on 19 April 1856 in Carlisle.
Does anyone have other information about the family or the death of Robert sometime
onwards from 1831. Robertina was born 2 September 1832 so he must have been around until
early 1832.
If it is the right family, Robert and Mary were married in 1817 in Renwick.
Any information will be appreciated.
