Hi Ann, & Jim and Donna,
You may each be looking for the same family history, (which is why I
tried connecting you). Of course, I'm always looking for the Gen for
Rocsolanah / (Rocksolannah) Carruthers, in particular, the one md 1st Jos
Martin, md 2d John Witherington, and her father John's father - Nathaniel or
Wm?
bw
Ann,
Congratulations for getting your email. Can you also access an
active Link? If so, try clicking on Jim/Donna's at:

MARTIN, CARRUTHERS
Jim and Donna 6/08/ 1997
Looking for a connection between JOEL MARTIN and possibly JOHN MARTIN. The
will of JOHN MARTIN 01-AUG-1737 BATH COUNTY, list his wife as ROCSOLANAH
CARRUTHERS MARTIN. His children were JOHN MARTIN, JOSEPH MARTIN AND
ELIZABETH MARTIN, there was probably a fourth since his wife was pregnant at
the time of writing the will and mentioned as a devisee.

Ann,
You can also join then access (Free) the Carruthers Archives, AWA
the Martin Archives at:
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/c/carruthers.html
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/m/martin.html
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/w/witherington.html
where you can search or Browse - I suggest the latter to get started.
Ann, I'm also looking for a few of what I feel are potentially
interesting messages (see further below) from both our Carruthers Archives
(where ALL messages remain accessible - either or both to Browse and/or
Search) and other msgs, including from Vam York. Vam has looked at some
interesting info, and she made a point you will find interesting. She
recalls Ann Witherington Morton (for more, see our many photos at:
http://groups.msn.com/WringtonAncestors/welcome.msnw
(application to join necess - I'll immed approve you)
then:
http://groups.msn.com/WringtonAncestors/photos1.msnw
where 150 photos are viewable, including our reunion at the Witherington
Natl Historic Farm, and photos of Ann.
Now, to get to the point, Ann was an original researcher, and she also,
as did you, determined there were 2 different Rocksolannahs. I'll get you
more files to assist in your Martin pursuits., including Roc's 1st mg to
Joseph Martin - 1737 (or 1715-1758), f/o John, Joseph & Elizabeth Martin.
Pls use this for your info, but it is not necessary for you to address
each, or any, of the issues you spot, altho if you do see 1 or 2 hot leads,
please refer me to the portion you reference, for my further concentration.
Good hunting!

My son, Tom, forwarded the copy you sent me via him re: Martin/Carruthers
connection. I have studied the Bath County and Beaufort County records for
all the Martins and have concluded from the connections between Joel
Martin's sons William and John, and mother, Elizabeth Martin, that John
Martin, husband of Rocsolanah Carruthers, was the son of Joel Martin. Joel
Matin was the son of John Martin and Ann Keeling of Princess Anne County.
Have a good deal of information on him and the Keelings. Who is looking for
the connection? Now have an internet address as shown.

Hi Carruthers researchers,
I'd love to hear folks' reaction to the following.
This information comes from a Carruthers researcher, Paul Daugherty, via
Bill Allen <allen(a)nconnect.net>. It has no citations and should be
considered unproven/undocumented until we are able to track down the source
material.
1. John Carruthers of Howmains, Scotland, m. Blanche Murray, d/o Sir John
Murray. In 1523 he held a lease of land at Little Dalton, Annandale,
Scotland, on the Annan River near Solway Firth, Dumfrieshire, 17 miles south
of Dumfries.
2. John Carruthers Jr. of Howmains.
3. John Carruthers III, m. 1575 Susannah Wydderspoon, d/o Alexander
Wydderspoon of Rammarscates, Scotland.
4. Joannis Carruthers, m. Elizabeth Henderson, d/o John Henderson of
Bamdrum, Scotland.
5. Robert Carruthers m. 1694 in Scotland to Sarah Holliday. Four children:
a) John Carruthers emigrated to PA and thence to VA where he lived in 1771.
(Note: if this is correct, he can't be John of Craven Co., who died in
1752.)
b) William emigrated to VA, m. Margaret McCroskey. I've often wondered if
this might be my Wm. m. (1) Isabelle Bickam, (2) Margaret Mc_Carthy_, who
went to Louisiana.
c) Hugh m. Sarah ______; emigrated to Lancaster PA, thence to Augusta Co.,
VA, thence to Orange Co., NC.
d) Robert (b. ca. 1668) m. (1) 6/11/1689 in Paisley, Scotland to Sarah
Sproul (children: Robert and John); and (2) Elizabeth Farquhar, d/o Rev.
John Farquhar of Strabane, Co. Londonderry, Northern Ireland (children:
William b. 1714; James).
What do you all think of this? I suspect that it has errors, but I'd love
to find out what they are, and (perhaps) try to tie together some of the
disparate Carruthers lines if possible.
Cheers,
Gordon Bonnet
