Hi Pat,
I host the Bangs-L List, the Archives of which are rich:
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/b/bangs.html
and can be searched by the year, or Browsed (easiest) by the msg. Always
accessible from our Taglines, at the bottom of every msg.
I also host the Carruthers-L List
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/c/carruthers.html
- same deal!
We certainly would like a copy of the The Will of Jonathan Bangs, and
the other information you can access. Do you need some money?
Are you familiar with the Yale collection of the Bangs Papers? Has
anyone reviewed them? It's supposed to be quite a collection, but I have not
heard of anyone having accessed them at any recent time. I wonder if Dean
(was it Dudley?) did before he wrote? Also, I wonder, if not, why not?
Surely there are genealogically significant papers in the collection.
Have you ever heard the story behind the naming of Bangs Island? Perhaps
the collection contains relevant info.
Feel free to call me - I'd like to hear your ideas. Why did Jon leave his
comfort area and head for NC? Family rift??? Adventure? Economic
opportunity? We heard it was a shipping opportunity, but little else. New
Bern was THE port then.
Thanks for your interest, and let us know what we can do to assist.
