After several years of research, I am still trying to find parents for Anne
Eyre b. ca 1525/7 of Wedhampton, Wiltshire who md. James Hampton; William
Howell and 3rdly, a Mr. Tacketh. Supposedly she had a brother John who md.
into the Tropenolle family and the manor of Great Chalfield was his family
home; parents were John Eyre who md. Ellin Croker. I have . . .
not seen her listed in any visitations on Eyre that I have viewed
over the
years. Faris' book on Howell shows Eyre ancestry from a 1565 visitation
for the couple of John Eyre who md. Ellin Croker, but nothing to show
either John or Anne as their children, only a son Symon Eyre and his desc.
In the same Howell book, the information about John Eyre who was overseer
of he will of Wm Howell gives us the most information on the brother and
sister (he was of East Chalfield); however this still does not tell us who
their parents were....a few years ago I received quite a lengthy response
to a query of mine on genforum and it! brought up an interesting question
and information about the John Eyre of Wedhampton, re his land in
Urchfont and mentioned "John Le Eyr, time of Edward III, by his wife
Eleanor the daughter ond heiress of John Crooke of Urchefont,
Wilts,,,"etc. has anyone tacked this puzzlement? Is there any connection
between a John Eyre who had a wife "Ellin Crocker" or Eleanor Crooke? Has
anyone had cause to research the Tropenolle family to see if anything
found there re the Eyre family?
