[from Scope and Content] He cannot yet ascertain who Mr Newnham is,
but has made an inquiry. He is sending a copy of Captain Cox's letter and
that of Loxdale's letter to the Lieutenants, and
also a copy of Mr Carruthers letter relating to the Hales Owen Corps. He has
written to the last that he has transmitted the contents of his letter to
Lord Berwick.

[from Scope and Content] He has not Lord Berwick's address so asks
Mr Loxdale to apply to Lord Berwick for Carruthers's Commission as Captain
of the Hales Owen Volunteer Cavalry. It is necessary for the Lord
Lieutenant to address His Majestry's Secretary of State for the Home
Department for the Commission to be obtained. The Corps is to be inspected
by General Burton on 29 instant which Loxdale is obliged to attend.
