Hi Pat,
Many of us are very interested in the Wton 1st immigrant, which is the
level you are discussing (altho the msg you were discussing was not directly
addressing that issue). A few yrs ago, UK professional Genealogist, after a
paid study, Geoff Nicholson suggested Saml as the most likely father of
'our' immigrant W'ton. Sam'l was father of abt 4 children, and many of us
believe Sam'l's son Robt was 'our' orig emigrant, but few have so
concluded
to a high level of confidence - still, it 'seems' the appropriate
conclusion - just not quite enough proof.
Others may have a diff view. Also, a recent published study suggests Rbt
Widdrington's wife was Eliz Cleverly, not Eliz Dare, altho many of us are
reluctant to accept that. All of this is discussed at some length in recent
and earlier email messages, all contained in our Lists Archives:

Most such evaluations begin w/the Rbt Widd will of 1722, and are
supported by the Carruthers will of 1751.
