Hi again Bangs/Carruthers Gen,
Here's plenty more to work with.
Christine, Tex & Deborah, please stop! (:-o) There is more to life than
this, altho this is 'Tres Cool' interesting! Nevertheless, let's allow some
simmering to percolate (Mixed or confused metaphors) so some of us can get a
spot of rest.
The only thing more I'd like to work on is someone in the Connecticut
area w/an interest in spending a day at Yale, rummaging thru the 60 Bangs
Boxes, presuming I can get permission. We'll buy lunch for 'you' and a
friend. This 'first' visit would be more of a get acquainted w/the
Collection trip than a search for missing Abiahs, Contents, & Thankfuls.
Note Tex's msg (see to the bottom for full note):
"Content Wife of John Dillingham Bangs & Baptized Sd Content"
Does 'Dillingham' mean anything to anyone? bw

Subject: Query Bangs - Carruthers Evidence Proofs

Barry, just a note to clear up some of my comments on the Bangs Carruthers
land purchases in NC. These were documented in the New England gen. books
series that I quoted - dates for Bangs purchase, who bought from, and that
it is recorded in the Mass, Barnswell court records (according to the
books), as well as the will of Jonthan Bangs father. If I recall the owner
of the land in NC who sold it to Bangs was living in MA., and Bangs was
living there, and that land purchase document is supposed to be inMA court
records also. The title to the land for Bangs and Carruthers is in the NC
land grant book series that most libs. have (even down here on the border).
The list of neighbors for Bangs is the same as the list of neighors for
Carruthers. The land purchases, dates and move dates are documented.
It would be worth it if y'awl could find someone in MA, preferably the
Barnswell area, to go to the court house there and look at the documents.
According to the New England Gen. books that I found, that is where the
records are. Also, it seems that after Jonathan died, Abah conducted some
of her inherited business in MA from NC...again, one of the books I quoted
listed that info and some documentation.
christine
Barry, one more thing....
I did some "net surfing" on the Bangs, and found that yes, it is a fairly
well documented family group, but lots of discrepancies exist between the
different desc. who put the info out. Which surprised me in that the Bangs
seems to be an old, New England, respectable family, and MA did not have a
civil war to burn court houses and the documents like we did in the South!
Down here I found the indexes to the 100 some odd volumes of the New
England Gen. mag/ books, but only a few of the books. I am sure that
somewhere like Houston, etc (big cities) would have the complete volumes.
And again, is there a W'ton cousin in MA that can get to the records and
really check? My comment that Jonathans father's will mentions him (and that
the will is in MA), Thankful and Content are based on what was in the volume
that I did find.............also his daughter Betty Bangs, remember Betty is
short for Elizabeth!
christine
Barry, see if anyone can get their hands on 'GEN. NOTES OF BARNSTABLE
FAMILIES" printed 1888 - should have some Bangs in there.

Subject: Carruthers/Bangs I have found a Thankful Bangs her parents were
Jonathan and Elizabeth, could this be Jonathan's first wife and Abiah his
second. I found her in
wwwgenealogy.com in ancsetry search and I also have
the land deed records for Craven Co Nc form 1726 to 1758 the only thing I
have for 1738 is where william Carruthers gave to his sister Rochsolannah
Martin ( widow of John Martin ) a tract of 200 acres on the north side of
lower Broad Creek near the mouth of Neuse River, and in 1736 there was a
Solmon Wetherington and John Martin where land is sold between to of them.
Deborah
[Rocksolannahs land could well be the original plot which resulted w/her
living on Lot #98, catty-cornered to Tryon Palace, New Bern NC. We have info
of that! bw 1/20/02]
