Hi Martha, (& Jewelle)
Excellent information you feature here Martha, (& Jewelle). I know I have had
Wetherington blinders on about Greene, Lenoir and Jones Countiesalso; which is
unjustified, particularly after the day I spent researching at Lenoir college
(w/Sylvia? who was also a great cook) - perhaps because of Rocksolannah
(Carruthers) Wetherington and lot 98 catty-cornered to Tryon Palace. Perhaps the
'royalty' has blinded me to the very extensive resources of Pitt, Greene, Lenoir
and Jones Counties. Do wish we had an active researcher in that area, although
Allen Humphery has recently surfaced with some great ideas and gen product.
Some day I would like to spend a year looking into the great North Carolina
federal consitutional delegate controversy in which 5+ Wetheringtons crossed
swords with the VERY powerful Caswells (Gov, Sheriff, etc), resulting in a
stolen ballot box and loss (temporary?) of NC delegates to the Federal
Convention for founding of this country and its constitution.
Nevertheless, hope we can persuade some of our people to attend, consistent
with which I am directing this message to the lists, to commence a period of
consideration.
Thanks Martha for bringing this to our attention.
Barry
PS: The Kellenberger Wing also contains five or so W'ton 'books' - wonder how
they might compare to 'the Chronicles' mentioned by Jewelle, see below.

Subject: Heritage Genealogical Society
| Barry,
|
| Jewelle will answer your question on the Pitt Book but many of the NC
| Counties had one and of them, the Pitt Co is by far the best. It is the
| history of families.
|
| You might want to bring to the attention of the Carruthers, Hodges,
| Easterling and Witherington lists the formation of the Heritage
| Genealogical Society comprised of Greene, Lenoir and Jones Counties. THe
| first meeting will be this Thurs night, Sept 12, at Heritage Place, LCC,
| Kinston. The Society link is on Old Dobbers
|
|

|
| down at the bottom of the page
|
| Any additional Books for the Dobbs/Lenoir Cross Indices will be only found
| in the newsletter and not posted on the archives.
|
| We are also planning on having an Old Dobbers/JCNC Reunion the week of June
| 23, 2003. Probably from Wed to Sat pm. As the details get worked out the
| information will be on Old Dobber. Among other things we hope to have a bus
| tour of each of the three counties, a panel on the Civil War in the area, a
| panel on African American research and a lecture on how to ferret out
| information especially in burned counties. Sat will be be for sharing of
| information. Would love to have you come down for the week.

======================
Hello Everyone!!
First of all, I apologize if some of you get inundated with my post, as
I plan to send it to all the List to which I belong.... so, please, bear with me
and interact ... or delete!! <BigSmile>
For years, my members in our GENPCNCFIR Group have been clambering for
either a copy or reprint of the Chronicles of Pitt County.... and of course,
none were available. All were completely sold out! Now!!! I have great
news!!!
I have it on absolute authority that a reprint/update of the Chronicles
of Pitt County are forthcoming ... just a matter of finding the funding
to-date... and inasmuch as Pitt County is the root of SO many families that
migrated to adjoining counties and outlying states, I feel compel to share with
all of you the excitement and activity that has been generated in our dynamic
Group, GENPCNCFIR, reference this. Our Archives are Open To The Public so, if
interested, check it out:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/genpcncfir/messages
More than likely, updates to existing family material will be
forthcoming, plus additional new family histories documented. If your roots
began in Pitt and you want to be included, begin compiling your information now.
Space may be limited. The Pitt Co Historical Society is in the process now of
finding funding for their project.
As a stimulus to them (Pitt County Historical Society), and.... to get
your name in the pot... it was suggested that I start a List of Potential Buyers
to present to the Society. All interested persons, please send to me PERSONALLY
... jewelle(a)coastalnet.com NOT THROUGH THE LIST... (we don't want to
clutter mailboxes unnecessarily) your full name, address, any constructive
comments, and/or whether or not you have a desire to be included in the new
edition or have constructive suggestions for funding or ... happily... even
willing to make a donation toward the cost (do not send funds to me, only
information). No.. I am NOT a member of the Society nor do I have an ulterior
motive!!! .... only a desire to see this new Chronicle in print again!!
I have been advised that the potential selling price will probably be in the
range of $50.00 to $100.00. Well worth every penny, IMHO... and a
treasure-trove to anyone's personal genealogical library.
Thanks for your participation and I look forward to hearing from you.
You will be updated on results from time to time.
