Debbie has posted some interesting information here. Frankly, I'm hard
put to evaluate how much is new, or new relationships, etc. Sometime ago, I
posted some Carruthers court records, and some other land records, see some
below. Those and Debbie's current important information should assist us to
firm up some Carruthers relationships.
"Have found in same papers that Elizabeth Hobbs , mother was Prudence
Hobbs no father listed. and March 1770 court a marriage settlement from
Alexander Stewart to James Davis Equire. On Elizabeth Hobbs was proved in
open court by Thomas Haslen, and at the September 1772 Court, a Deed from
Alexander Stewart, Elizabeth Stewart, formerly Elizabeth Hobbs, Mary York,
formerly Mary Carruthers, and John Carruthers to John Hawks for Lot No. 91
in Newbern was proved by James Davis, Equire.
Note: I have a land deed record - May 19th 1733-34 William Carruthers of
Bath Co, Beaufort precinct, sells 150 acres for 75lbs. Please correct me if
this wrong, I do have several more that list a Bath co. There is also a
mention of Sarah Rew- Bond and identifying William Carruthers as her
father. in her will of 1796 it named John carothers as her brother and
Clayton, Joseph, John JR Alexander, and Thomas w. York Sr. as her nephew's.
Aliah Bangs in her will of 1755 leaves here Cousin (niece). Elizabeth Hobbs
a lot in New Bern and the rest of the Estate to her daughter Betty Bangs and
if Betty were to die it would go to her sisters Elizabeth and Mary ( Just
wonder how old Betty was at this time) William Carruthers ( her brother) was
named Executor, but John Carrruthers finished the administration of the
will. ( so what happened to William?).
Also received a note from a Tyre Elizabeth Carithers, TN, that has traced
the family back to John the 5th Lord of Holmains [[[ Note to Debbie, It
would be useful if you could track down the 'trace back' mentioned here.
Here is the most recent email I could find. Is that you also?]]]
