Hello Bangs,
I have photo-copied the Dean Dudley, of Boston, Genealogy of the Bangs Family. Its a
full 11 x 17 page, quite full of what Dean Dudley seemed to think was a rather complete
genealogy of the family, headed by 'Edward Bangs md Rebbekah'' including 5
lines of pre- and early gen. Thereafter, there is about 60-80 lines of very small text/
font containing abt 60-90 names and relationships.
THE DEAN LISTs SOME SOURCES OF HIS INFO: including town records of: Eastham, ...ich,
Brewater, Orleans, Barnstable, & family records of Barnstable families.
One puzzle is a failure to ID the 'Captain (Capt' is a term used more than 10
times on the Dean's page), who md into the Carruthers' family of North Carolina,
full discussions of which are contained in the archives of the BANGS-L (a very few, of
many such msgs, Linked below):

http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/BANGS/2008-03/1206213529
The Dean dates his efforts as Boston, June 30, 1864? I'll send my copies to
someone who will agree to distribute them to all Bangs. At some point, when feasible,
especially after we are able to reach a suitable agreemant on the content, or if someone
in custody of a full 'translation' of the content can forward a full duplicated
copy to me, we will arrange transfer of the record.
Millie
Can you send me (or a link to) your descendancy:

As for maritime endevours, John Carruthers WAS in a Big one w/ Jon Bangs, whose GF?
was on the Anne, 2d? ship (to the Mayflower) to land in NEng.
Big Gen project - I am holding in my hands as we 'speak,' the rather
complete 17x11 Bangs Gen chart (Thank you Vam) as compiled by Dean Dudley of Boston. bw)
"Also, I see a John Carruthers listed in South Carolina records as captain of a
galley called the Molley. But, the record also sometimes lists him as being of

It could WELL be 'our' J Carruthers. I would VERY MUCH like to put Jon Bangs
as a crewmember on any Carruthers ship!!! Jon Bangs md Abiah Carruthers in NC. Perhaps the
listings 'of England' were of the 'new' New England.'

Thanks Martha for the information on Blackbeard. You do have to wonder about the link
between him and some of the families we're researching! Very intriguing!
Your mention of Woodard/Woodward caught my attention. In 1785, John Rice, Jr. sold land
in Bladen County to a Christopher Woodward of Wake County. Additionally, early Woodwards
(from Dublin, Ireland) were affiliated with Nathaniel Rice. I also seem to remember a
Henry Woodward in Charleston, SC in the late 1600's and early 1700's who may have
been associated (or at least they probably knew each other) with the Quaker Edward Mayo
(who I think served as an attorney for John Gibbs, father of Anne who married Nathaniel
Rice). Edward Mayo as I understand it was in the Princess Anne/Currituck area, but
apparently had dealings in Charleston as well as I see his name there in some records. I
will try to dig out those records again, although may not be able to get to it until this
weekend.
I'm amazed at how some of these families were in the Albemarle region of North
Carolina and then show up in Charleston or the Cape Fear area. Porter, Mosely &
Lillington come to mind right away, but I'm sure there were others.
Also, I see a John Carruthers listed in South Carolina records as captain of a galley
called the Molley. But, the record also sometimes lists him as being of (New?)England, so
not sure it's the same person who was living in New Bern.

Looking for a connection between JOEL MARTIN and possibly JOHN MARTIN. The will of JOHN
MARTIN 01-AUG-1737 BATH COUNTY, list his wife as ROCSOLANAH CARRUTHERS MARTIN. His
children were JOHN MARTIN, JOSEPH MARTIN AND ELIZABETH MARTIN, there was probably a fourth
since his wife was pregnant at the time of writing the will and mentioned as a devisee.

Hi Gini,
Thanks for the 'report.' One last query - have any of the Yale papers been
digitized, so we could do an electronic search, specifically for 'Carruthers'?
Still trying to determine what led Jon to leave the Cape/ home for New Bern NC.

Hi Barry,
The Yale Collection was interesting, but I certainly didn't attempt to read
everything! I was primarily searching for ancestors not descendants, and I found nothing
. Doesn't mean it's not there though. My most recent BANGS is Hannah, dau of
Edward BANGS and Lydia HICKS (info from you,
thanks again). Lydia (1612-1677) was dau of Robert HICKS and Margaret WINSLOW, which
is another line to investigate further. I think it was her brother or father who was one
of the backers of The Mayflower, but they immigrated on later ships.
Gini
Sounds like you have your Bangs Family Tree pretty much assembled. Is there any
portion you could share w/us - perhaps to get some of us heading in the right direction.
I take it you have info about the Yale collection that confirms there are no Hanna
Bangs 1644 references? I had hoped the collection might cover pre-America Bangs info. For
example: ". . . . this Jonathan was the son of the Massachusetts Jonathan Bangs
(1640-1728). As you can see,
John Carruthers was his uncle, and Abiah Bangs was his widow."

Hi Maureen, [and all Bangs researchers on the List]
The only Bangs of whom we had ever been aware is Abiah Bangs, and up pops Content
(Bangs) md on of 'our' Carruthers:
- Edwd Bangs (arrived on the Anne to Mass. 1623) and his descendant (SON?) Jonathan
Bangs md Abiah Carruthers,
- John Carruthers (bro of Abiah) md Content Bangs (sis of Jon)
- Rocksolannah Carruthers md John Witherington s/o Robt
Widdrington(e)/Witherington d 1722 md Elizabeth Dare
And so, in one incredibly packed message/exchange, we joined the Bangs family at an
early time, w/no known present/recent connections.
While we have all been aware that there was a possible, even suspected, Bangs
connection, because of the prominence played by the Bangs in the lives of Carruthers/Wtons
(and how significant does that witness to the John Carruthers 1751 will by the name of
Abiah Bangs look now!!!), we've been
busy doing gen, but nut much Bangs Gen, so we are not knowledgeable of any present
Bangs Gen.
However, I'm posting this to the Bangs-L List, in case someone can assist.
Good luck,
Barry

Barry I am not sure if the Bangs you are following are the same as mine but
>my Great Great Grandfather was Skovfoged Ludvig Bang og Hustru Marie
>Laursdatter and thee Lausdatter is Icelandic so his wife was from
Iceland, >we have a History of HOJSHOLTS sorry can't put the slashes across
the o as it would have been in Denmark and our history goes back to when
the Monarchy was set up in Danmark as it should be spelt not Denmark as we
do here. As far as I am aware we are the only Bangs in New Zealandalthough
I do know that other members from cousins and all are starting to come out
here we are a family from the area of Hojsholts and later moved to Tommerup
I can get my Husband to copy some of it and send it if you like. Apparently
we had large families and in most states in Danmark there are over 500
Bangs in each
state according the Danish Consoul. If you want any other info I would be
glad to help. Yours in the search for family Maureen Hudson( nee Bang )

Hi & Thanks Tex,
Is it your thought that this Edward BANGS 1591-1677 is the 'Patriarch'
Edward BANGS arrived to Mass. on the 'Anne' 1607 and featured in the
Library
collection(s), see our prior messages of recent. He would have been abt 16
yrs old then.
I'm unfamiliar w/Robt Hicks - why are you following his connection to
Bangs? Is he impor to your Line (and mine)? This is certainly a valuable
Link, and begins to flesh out our Bangs/Carruthers/W'ton/Dare connection to
an even greater detail.
Thanks for thinking of us!
