Thanks, Rochelle, for your offer to post the Caruthers information from your
new book. I would be most grateful if you would do so, as I'm sure other
Caruthers descendants would, also.
Thank you for your kind offer.

Happy Holidays!
My wonderful husband bought me the set of
Elbert/Morgan/Wilkes/Oglethorpe Co., GA Deed Books extracted by Michal
Farmer for Christmas. I asked for the books for my Holmes/Jenkins line
but lo and behold I found some Caruthers. If anyone would like the info
posted I would be happy to do so.

Hi Jean,
Thanks for the reference to the Cape Cod grave stone records for Bangs Cape
Cod, MA. grave stone records at the site below:
http://www.capecodgravestones.com/index.html
I went to the site and found the many graveyards (many more than 100 it
seemed) avail to search for our Bangs. To find our Bangs ancestors by
electronically 'Searching' the Links for the many listed sites would certainly
take us very much less time that if we were to attempt to visit each site
physically, for which we give thanks. I wonder if you had any luck in
determining any specific graveyards that were more rewarding for Bangs
ancestors? The first 20 I visited electronically had no Bangs.
Like I said, I'll plow through them all if necessary but if you have the
names of a few in which you were successful, I'd love to start with them.
Thanks for sharing your information.

Hi Annie,
You will get a surprise regarding how far and wide the Carruthers are in
Dumfrieshire - they bred like rabbits and kept on marrying each other too!
No I didnt take the photos - they are the property of the site owner. If
you want to check out all the different parish names Id suggest you go to
the internet site and download a brilliant useful search tool called "Parish
Locator".
Happy hunting

I have been reading the postings on the list, hoping someone might mention my
Jane. She married William Hillis. Not sure just when, but probably by 1760.
They were in Washington Co. Pa, or in what became Washington Co. They were
some of the squatters on Geo. Washington's land, and this didn't set well
with old Geo. This was about 1780 I think. They moved to Ohio, then later
to Bourbon Co. Ky. By the time they died, they were living in the area of
Madison, In. They were buried at Ryker's Ridge Cemetery; about 1817.
Any clues from anyone?

Thanks Gary and Jan. Nice pics.
I'm so excited to know for a fact that I have a Scottish ancestor! I've
only known about my Irish and English ancestors. My only Carruthers link is
Sarah (1728) who married into the Bond line. The reason I'm excited though
is because I've been living in Scotland for the last 2 years since I married
a Scot (I'm American). My husband said I must have some Scottish blood with
a name like Carruthers in my family tree and he knew of Carrutherstown. I
found Carrutherstown on the net and it's about 120 miles from where I live.
I haven't been in Dumfrieshire yet, but I certainly intend to go now. Had
trouble pinpointing the location of Holmains though. Did you take the pics
yourself, Gary?

Looking for info on Sarah Carruthers who married Vinyard Bond and lived in Beaufort County, NC. She had a brother John; her children were Sweeting and Sarah. She is apparently the daughter of John and Content?
Not researching the Carruthers family specifically - am researching Bond. But I read somewhere that her ancestry can be traced back to 1300s which peaked my interest. It was suggested by another researcher that Sarah and Vinyard came to NC from Dublin, but apparently not.
Thanks for anyones help.
Annie
Actually Gary...I did take advantage and get the snap of Dalton
Church..Dormont..where I believe my ancestors William Caruthers (aka
Carithers/SC, GA, Al, MS & TX) came from...I have them located the American
rev war..in SC....but cannot get them back into Scotland...still trying
tho.. Thanx for the pics...Jan

I too have a listing for William and Joanne Carruthers have not found
much about Nathaniel Carruthers. Must make a correction on the
No 4th Generation sheet that you have listed It was William that married
Sarah Lacy and Sarah Barr ,check with 1840 census in Hickman Co. William is listed with a S, Mariah Barr. He is 36 and she is 28 They
List children as William 11 , Howell 9, and James 7 now these were
William and Sarah Lacy's son Sarah is listed in 1830's but not after
that. It is a possiablie that she died in child birth with James his birth
yr is the same and her death yr 1833. and also listed is Sarah 3 and
Mary 1 . In the the book Early marriages of Hickman Co they list
William Carruthers and Sarah Mariah Barr married 1834 all mention
in the History of Hickman Co Tenn this book has alot of History of
the Carruthes family. I found this book in the Lubbock libaray.

Excellent point Glen,
I did reserve on the accuracy ['a working Carruthers Tree - not a final
product but useful for consideration'.], primarily because I hadn't done any
work on this level for a few yrs. Appreciate your observations - at the moment,
I don't have any research (or motivation) to support the orig Nathaniel nor
contradict Wm - in fact, Wm seems the more likely, but unsure how we got Nath.
Thanks so much for your contribution.
Barry
