Dear Marge,
The furthest back I have been able to go is Orelieus P. (O.P.) Carruth
b. 1840 in Tennessee married to Mary Drusilla McNutt 0r Nutt, also from TN
b.1849. His parents are listed as born in Alabama, but do not have their
names. O.P. & Mary had 8 children. He enlisted during Civil War, June
12,
1863, Company F, Hardy's Arkansas Infantry Regiment, Confederate
States of
America. By February 1864 was in Co. C, 24th Ar inf. AR Federal Land
Records show him purchasing, or maybe it was a land grant, 160 acres in
Columbia County AR in 1875. 1880 census puts he and entire family in
Sebastian County AR & a land purchase of 57.67 acres in 1882 in that
County.
This was in Huntington Township. He died between 1880 and 1900
because
1900
census shows wife, Mary, living with youngest son, John, in
Huntington,
Diamond Township. His oldest son, Henry Erastus Carruth, is my
ggrandfather. O.P. and Mary are my gggrandparents. Any of the names or
places sound like your family? Would be great if they connect with you
because I have a lot of info and pictures from there forward. I am from
CA.
Karen
